This is one thing I see in a lot of places, not even just the webmaster world, to be honest.
But, one place where it was particularly unpleasant was at MyBB, a lot of the admins there, most likely kids, generally act like the MyBB Team are their slaves.
As you may or may not know, I've contributed a few features to MyBB 2.0, some bits of pieces to 1.8.x and whispered a fair bits of advice on how not to have MyBB be the slowest and least scalable thing on Earth for any sort of serious use.
I also spent about a year trying to persuade the MyBB Team to drop the pointless 2.0 endeavour as it winded up in this odd dance where everyone would pretend to be "busy" and practically nothing would be done in an entire year, but they would be too stubborn to admit that no one wanted it (including themselves) and to bring things back on track with a less ambitious venture.
Among a few occasions, this spilled over to the forums as the issue was quite a contentious one, but unfortunately, all of the trolls started crawling out of the woodwork and calling for the team members to step down and resign for their incompetence. The same people who have badgered them constantly for new versions, even when one has just come out the previous week.
They seemed to be under the flawed impression that if they were to resign, then new people would step up to contribute. That could not be further from the truth and in fact is one of the most ridiculous things in the world considering that they are volunteers doing this whenever they had the free time to do so.
With people essentially telling them to go f**k themselves, morale just kept dropping into the negatives and getting even worse than it even was, sometimes a team member would even snap and give them a piece of their mind before deleting their own post.
To actually make headway, I winded up spending about a year persuading people, bringing up statistics about MyBB losing a fifth of it's market-share in a single year, information about Discourse rapidly closing in on it and even Discourse's attitudes on rewrites which was basically a... Hahaha, never and them citing incidents at their previous jobs, Netscape, etc.
That accomplished what years of whining and abuse never did.
The cancellation of 2.0 and the more realistic plan of continuing 1.x, in the past year, there has probably been more progress than in the last four years.
This wasn't one of the reasons I went down the VPS first route at first, it was really to learn Go and to reap the advantages of doing so, but now, the lack of this simply disgusting behaviour is a big motivating factor for me to get things done without people acting like they're owed the world and screaming and whining.
