Has anyone ever sold anything on Etsy? I used to sell on eBay but not anymore and looked into Etsy but am wondering how hard it is to get people to your Etsy shop?

Yes, that is correct that people sell the things they make. There are things that are tech related though in some of the shops like laptop stands, computer desks, vintage computers and parts, etc...
Amazon is opening their own Handmade section like Etsy. So I think a lot of people may move there. But having presence on Etsy is definitely worth it. I did few paintings which got sold but after that done mostly local gigs.

I've been on Etsy before. It does kind of act similar to ebay but I'd say for more artsy stuff.
I think for me going local might be better in the long run too. Will you try Amazon once it gets started? I don't think I will.
My wife has been selling on Etsy for years, you used to be able to sell only handmade items but have changed that in the recent years. I know some sell themes on there as well other items, never really did a search. Selling on amazon is ok but keep in mind that everyone wants free 2 day shipping and a lot of returns.
You brought up a good point about returns!! On Amazon if I get anything that I'm not happy with I just complain and they send me a new one without having to return the old one. I'm honest about it but I can bet there are a lot of people who take advantage of that process.
