Who will be watching Eurovision tonight? It’s quite a big thing in the UK and a lot of people watch it. Just curious to see who else watches it?

Not me, I try an avoid it like the plague but it keeps coming back to haunt me and I'm not the only one.

A friend of mine and former band member wrote a rather cheesy song for the Samaritans, a UK charity that provides a telephone support line for people struggling with mental health issues. He also wrote and performed some better known songs such as 'Walking on Sunshine'.

To cut a long story short, that cheesy song found its way into the Eurovision Song Contest in 1997. The song writer and guitarist dissociated himself from the group's participation and to his horror, it won the contest. It was the last time the UK had a winning entry.

I'm also somewhat familiar with a previous UK winner through her partner because we both use the same guitar tech. In short I know a lot of people who have been involved in Eurovision and to be honest, they all have very mixed feelings about it.

I know it's a bit of fun but the music is questionable and the politics in modern times have devalued it's worth in my view, particularly this year.

This years was a mess from start to finish and got tangled up in so much political turmoil.

I agree. I didn't watch it but I certainly read about it and the music, which is what it's supposed to be about, seemed almost incidental.
