Definitely, this has happened to me multiple times, including when my host shut my site down citing "excessive CPU usage" without helping me out at all by optimizing it. I ended up switching hosts, and my site was down for 2 days which is a pretty big deal. And then a few nights ago I was up until 6 AM trying to install a gallery on my forums 😕 I feel your pain man.
My advice would be, that if it is really bothering you that much, take a couple days away from your site to calm down and remember the benefits of having a site, and why you enjoy running it. I often times come back determined to make my site better than ever 🙂
The core as to why the problems started in the first place was because of I was trying to add this reputation mod on my forums, the one that this site uses, however it turned into a nasty mod rather then a fun and nice one
Not yet, but I know I'll go through that phase. We just to realize that forums can take months to years to become successful, and you just have to advertise is as much as possible.
Oh yes. I have felt like giving up numorous times. But I have recently decided to revive an old forum Let's Just Talk and despite the fact that my computer time is limted, I have just decided to leave the board open and to just go with the flow.
We have 2 admins and 2 mods on our forum. Whenever any of us is feeling 'it's all too much', there are still 3 of us to make sure things run smoothly 😉

Well, just yesterday I just hired my first co-administrator. And it sounds like he knows his stuff when it comes to SMF (although I haven't seen him in action, yet) so it's going quite well. Not only that, but I feel better knowing that I have some inside help as well.
I always feel like that, especially when your day in real life is not going so well. That just makes it even more annoying to deal with a forum. Just got to stick to it.
I have honestly never felt like giving up - I am not a giving up sort of person ............ BUT I do not tackle things I am not familiar with without help as I would hate to feel your pain.
Yup, lately one of my forums, (my oldest and largest community almost 3000 members and 100,000 posts, almost 3 years going) has become so
full of drama and conflict I dread logging in there anymore, in fact have not in a few days, been spending my time promoting and building a whole new community to be part of my Online Radio Stations website.
I really hate giving up on a community I spent so many years and so much time on, but I have lost interest in it because of all the headache to deal with there and I might be better and have more fun building my newest forums instead and just letting that one to my mods to deal with.
All forum owners have to realize that forums take a long time to become successful, and it will go through its inactivity periods, some more than others. You just have to be patient, dedicated to your forum, and willing to reply to and start discussions.
OMG in respond is saying I did give up on JBC once here is the old site http://eastendersfansite.forumotion.com (I was planning to change it to a eastenders fan forum but forgot , so it still has the James bond forums etc lol) .
I haven't felt like giving up yet but I do agree it does get frustrating. I have alot of members in the "private" clan are of my forum but it is still hard to get activity going in the public area. As I have read and learned here tho I shall be patient and keep on going 🙂
