Have you ever branched out and hosted your site/ forum on an unmanaged server/ vps? When I ran ForumHoopla waaay back in late 2011, I had the mybb forum hosted on a 768mb ram VPS from Virpus. I was using a Kloxo control panel (I highly recommend you do NOT use Kloxo now) and I can just remember spending absolutely hours fixing Kloxo bugs and administering the server. It was a lot of fun though and I got a lot of satisfaction out of it.

I always go with managed since it takes too much time managing a server. I am on a host that has very fast support so problems and bugs are solved very quickly.

Kolxo is horrible that's why I always go with the managed , too much trouble for me to go with an unmanaged one and my skills arent that good to be able to run a site on such servers.

Same here. Besides are unmanaged servers even reliable? I mean say something comes up like if you get hacked or a DDOS attempt happens. If you're on an unmananaged server and something like that happens unless you know where to go for help if you have trouble with restoration you're screwed if you aren't sure what to do.
