Everything causes cancer, lol. Since there is no escaping illness due to the environment it seems, should people worry? I think people should worry somewhat, but it seems pointless to dwell on it.

As someone who is a 2 time cancer survivor, I often wonder what was the cause of my cancers. I never smoked, don't drink except having a once a year drink with a group of lady friends and try to take care of myself and stay healthy.

Yes, smoking can cause cancer but it doesn't always cause cancer. Yes, drinking can cause cancer and it doesn't always cause cancer. Some people get cancer from the environment where they live, but not everyone does. Our own immune systems play a role I believe in being able to prevent cancer from happening in the first place. I have Hashimoto's disease so my immune system is already weakened by that.

Should we worry? Maybe a little...enough to know the dangers of overdoing things that could lead to cancer. Cancer isn't fun. Treatment is barbaric (in my opinion).

I had genetic testing done for my thyroid cancer and it came back inconclusive. Do I have the gene that makes me susceptible to more cancers? I don't know. A lady from my church had the gene and had cancer 7 times. She was a trooper and fought til the end though.

I believe in holistic living & do what I can to eat organic, live holistically, etc. However, the Earth is toxic. Babies are born with toxins already in their systems. Just imagine how much an adult would have. With that said though, I still believe being healthy helps the immune system work more efficiently to fight off dis eases & cancers. People should worry but then they should take that worry into being pro-active into their own healthcare. Doctors don't get paid by having healthy patients. They get paid to treat the Symptoms, not the Root of the problem.

I'm also a twice times cancer survivor. In my case the treatment for both was bearable and as a disease, I've had much worse.

There are obvious environmental factors that can increase the likelihood of contracting cancer but longevity is now a major factor. Live long enough and you have an approximate 50/50 chance of getting it but it's not by any means all doom and gloom. It's thought around 4 in 10 cancers are preventable, a prime example being skin cancer, something I'm all too familiar with.

It's also worth remembering that cancer no longer equates to an inevitable death sentence, far from it in fact. Advances in screening and treatment have put the survival rate for 10 years and above at over 50%.

Should you be worried? I'd say not at all especially if you are mindful in terms of prevention e.g. don't smoke and also in terms of screening e.g. ensure you observe all the recommend checkups as you get older. In short there are multiple ways of minimising your risk even if you contract the disease.

It's in people's nature to worry about things outside of our control. If you get a disease that gives you a death sentence, it's hard not to worry. I can't imagine what that does to a person's mind.
