On a support forum I use to go on, I noticed that the members who use to be staff got away with breaking the rules. I still visit this forum for codes, but I noticed that this one member, acts like she's still staff, basically mini-modding. Today, I noticed this same member, and another ex mod bashing a member for something he said.

Now, from experience, if you report it, nothing is done except a slap on the wrist and a 'you know better'. Ugh..it's just annoying. New members would be in trouble on the spot, but yet these ex-staff get nothing. Surprisingly, one these ex-staff members is a 40 yr old. You'd think by now they'd know not to gang up on members.

Question at hand, Do you let your ex staff members get away with breaking the rules?

Needless to say, I don't.

Never. Current staff, ex staff, fellow administrators never get away with breaking the rules 😉

One rule for one, one rule for all is my motto.

Are you going to name the support forum?

I would never let a staff member get away. Just a nudge (PM) will solve the issue, for me.

....We don't let STAFF members get away with breaking the rules!!

{Only exception is that we have a no doublepost rule normally, but when I need to bump an important thread for reasons of alerting the members of it, I double post to bump it and give an update. But that's pretty much it, and double posting IS allowed sometimes by anyone who needs to bump, so I don't even know if that's a rulebreak. Other than that, we adhere to the same rules we set for our members.}

No one should be "above the law." It leads to abuse.

He's talking about PBS A.K.A: Proboards support.

I'm currently a member there and it is ran by The owner> Then the Veterans and finally the Moderators\ Staff members.

There is a ton of squabbling amongst members and veterans trying to claim stake at opening Mod memberships.

Hey, least it isn't as bad, as meme-happy, overly aggressive Tokyopop.

No i wouldnt let anyone get away with rule breaking staff or not.

Nope, when they become ex-members of staff, they become members once again. Sure we would remember what they have done for the site, but you can never allow them to receive special treatment or play favorites.

Yet another reason for me never to use Proboards 😛

No, I don't let ex staff members break the rules. And if current staff members break them, they get fired.

Simple as that.

You see, though, the problem is the support board, not the actual ProBoards service. The forums they provide are excellent.

Actually, I am a member of Proboards Support, and very rarely do you have a ex moderator sticking it to you. Everyone gets a warning there, no matter what, but it is only visible to THAT member, and staff. 😛

I don't know what you people are smoking.

I never give slack on anyone unless they are new and still learning the ropes.

I rather be strict and have a few members whining about it instead of letting them run wild..

I've had my bad experiences over at PBS, and what I do in general is just wait for Craig or Patrick to address my issues. I've gotten outright wrong answers from their mod team. I only go over there when I really need to. Otherwise I stick to their ad board and hang out in places like here, outside my RPG that is.

I never stuck around enough to learn of the politics there, but I find that surprising, as my own RPG has solved almost all of those sorts of political wrangling and we did it without the use of anything drastic. I wonder if they actively allow those politics to rage on their board sort of behind the scenes or what? I hope not, that sort of thing eventually destroys a board.

Current staff members should follow the rules so ex staff members definitely should follow the rules too.

Staff or not, rules apply to everyone.

Sometimes i come across forums where ex staff members get a title like: ex mod.
I think that's a load of bull, you used to be staff, but not anymore. That applies to FP aswell.

I personally hold former staff members to a higher standard than regular users. I am positive they are aware as to what is and what is not allowed, so a violation or two and *boom.*

That was the best reply so far. They should be higher examples as everyone else because they do know the rules. There is no excuse in the world why an ex staff member should be breaking them.
