When you think of community staff members, how do you imagine them to be like? How do you expect staff members to act or portray themselves? How involved should staff members be in the community?

A staff member, regardless of the role should always be a normal user. I hate Admins and Mods who think they are better than the community and don't join in discuss and talk very formally and almost like robots. The best staff member is someone who acts professionally but is acts like themselves and always joins in active discussion with other users and is helpful and knowledgeable about what they are doing.

Agreed. I don't think any of us could have put that better if we tried.

When I visit a forum I generally expect the staff members to be quite knowledgeable and experienced in relation to the forum topic, or at least on a specific area of the forum's general topic.

How do you expect staff members to act or portray themselves?
To be polite and professional at all times and to do most of their moderation work behind the scenes. They should also be positive and supportive of the community.

How involved should staff members be in the community?
In my opinion they should be active, contributing members.

Post actively, be polite and kind to all members and moderate where needed.

The member comes first; all arguments are settled privately; they are more helpful than they are police.

Honestly, I don't really know.. I mean I dont think that an admin or mod should take themselves too seriously, or see their power as an opportunity to mistreat their members. I think that they should participate with the other members whenever possible and not take an elitist approach to it.

Personally though, I consider myself to be just a regular member, but with more responsibility than other members.. I don't always post, even though, I have the highest post count there, because I am usually busy.. but I do post when I can. I am very laid-back on my forum, and don't have to play the admin card. I don't have to state that I am the admin as anyone who doesn't know that, will know soon enough.. whether they start trouble, or need help and have a question.

They should be a regular member that helps the community, does most modding behind the scenes.
