What do you do if someone comes for an exchange and does very poor quality on their side of the deal?

I am very strict about this and give out 50% out of a possible 100% permanent warning points and have it so their posts are moderated for a month.

I would create a list of these people and put them in my staff area and make a note not to accept exchanges from them in the future.

Then, I would report them to staff of the forum where the exchange took place.

I actually had an issue where people either spammed my forum, or refused to complete their end of the bargain. I took screenshots of whatever posts they made and copied the link to them and I reported them to the staff of the forum where the original exchange took place.

After the staff handles the situation, I then disable that member's account on my forum. I don't ban them unless they have spammed my forum.. in that case, I'll ban them instead.

Normally if I do exchanges, I take half of the payment upfront to combat this, or at least try to. I would also talk to the administration team of where the poster came from and see what I could do about them. Other than that, just blacklist their name and warn people of what they are getting themselves into.

When I do exchanges (its been a while), I only do smaller ones (like 5/5 new topics), if I get burned I just won't do exchanges with that person anymore.

I didn't know that you could do anything about this. So I would just give them spam back if they spammed mine.

I have been tempted to do that, but then they could turn around and then say that you were the spammer and then get you in trouble. So I wouldnt do that.

I've had people delete my posts or edit my post count to make it seem as if I wasn't doing my end and what I did to prove that they were altering my posts was take screenshots of everything, including my profile as well and when they started trying to cheat, that was when I pmed the staff and because they had a habit of doing this to others, they were banned from the forum. I guess they needed proof.

I have also had my reputation speak for itself because on other forums I have been active at, people have vouched for me from my previous exchanges as well as my character and how I am on the forum. In fact, it is where most of my current rep comes from here.. people either like my exchanges or they like my posts around here.

This is the way it has been on other places as well and when it mattered most, they have said something on my behalf and asked me via pm who ripped me off when I posted about in discussion topics about bad exchanges. And they have avoided exchanges with these people on my word alone. So, it does pay off to have a cool head and not fly off the handle when someone rips you off.

I have also had crap like this happen when I have requested post packages as well. This has happened more so with post packages from forum staff than with post exchanges. This is why I only go to a select few forums for both post exchanges and post packages.

Anyway, if you got a bad exchange here, you can report them to the staff but document everything.

Honestly speaking, you can't really do anything about that. You're going to warn or ban them or delete the posts? In a way or another they are 'fake' members so they wouldn't be bothered about that.

It's just the other side of the coin. By asking to do exchanges you place full trust in the other party, believing that they'll keep up with your quality. When you don't get what you want, you can only get angry at yourself. Spamming their board in return? It only wastes your time, and you can be the one who gets a bad mark instead of that bad person. Spreading bad words about that other party? It's possible, but eventually the decision is not in your hands.

That's why choosing who to exchange with is important. Not sure if we can do much except checking history of exchanges. This is troublesome for new exchangers, but we can judge from the way they posts around the forum we make deals on.

So making you regular post on their forum isn't wasting you're time...wouldn't making one word post as they did take less time? This statement is invalid. Just saying. 😛

What phio said was not invalid in the slightest. You actually took what she said out of context in attempts to prove your point, or so it appears. What phio said was:

What I believe phio meant was that it's a waste of time because you could put the time that it takes to make those spam posts into something more productive such as creating quality posts on your site. In addition, by spamming the other board you are doing yourself more harm than good. People are going to see those posts (unless the owner decides to remove them), which will therefore give you a bad reputation. People aren't going to want to work with someone who doesn't make quality posts nor are they going to want to join any forum or website that you create.

If you're unhappy with the quality of posts someone makes with an exchange, let the person know that you are unhappy and that you would like them to re-write the posts. If they refuse and you haven't done your part, then don't do your part. If they refuse and you've done your part, then you've learned that you should no longer do exchanges with that person in the future.

Don't stoop to a childish level by spamming that person's forum/site or spreading negativity about them because at the end of the day you only dig yourself into a hole. Being mature and professional will get you much farther than "retaliating."

^ This.

Not to mention that by spamming, you could possibly be stepping into illegal grounds, depending on what you say/do. You really can't afford to go there.

Oh, sorry I was a little foggy when I read her reply, I had just woke up. But now I know what she was saying. I figured if you don't do your part when you're unhappy with the quality of the post, they could report you..

Thank you for the help, Lunar. 😉

It's exactly as she says. Don't think small, guys...

Of course they could, haha~ You're upset with the low quality posts, you can choose to finish your side of the deal or not. Some may understand why you won't finish it, others may not. If you finish it, well, maybe you'll feel like you're wasting your time, but you may get better reputation that way for holding to the deal no matter what happens. So it's up to each person.

I always ignore bad quality posters when doing an exchange but I will ensure that I give them good quality posts. 🙂 I want my posts to look good because that gives me a good looking reputation. If people do not care about how others view them, let them post horribly, it could ruin the reputation of their forum as well.

I do like sites like Post Loop though because you can rate someone for their posts. FP needs to implement something like that here!
