Has anyone ever purchased ads for their site on Facebook? I can gain a bit of exposure for just $20 and i'm not sure if I should give it a try or not? Have you ran an ad on Facebook for your website or forum? Has it paid off?

Not sure it would work out for a forum, but I've advertised my company a few times and got some clients from it.

It's paid off huge with almost 10,000 followers (US, UK, Australia, Canada, New Zealand). However, it wasn't cheap at around $2,500. Anyway, though, if your'e not interested in a western audience, you can get a third world audience for one penny a follow.

But the sad thing with the western audience - is I feel you still need 10 times more to actually sell a product.

Not sure how much gaming followers are on Facebook. Hopefully, if it would be between 5 cents and 10 cents a follow (for western traffic). Anyway, I was paying between 0.20 and 0.25 per follower, probably (for the drumming niche).

Note: I wouldn't run the audience directly to your forum. Make them Facebook followers (likes) first - and then run them to your website.

The price isn't right, that what puts me off

I've tried Facebook ad's in the past and as @Jason76 had mentioned they're better for first gaining Facebook group/page followers than they are for bringing new registrations directly to your community(website).

You're better off investing $20 on an advertisement on a gaming forum/site.

$20 simply isn't enough but I can understand the fact many don't have the income.

Well, for that little cash, yes, it would be better spent on a banner ad or something - on a gaming site.

You can get people directly to a page - but a group can only be gotten from advertising to an already made page - or making a FB ad which sends people to a off-Facebook landing page which has the Facebook group link.

I have purchased advertising from Facebook in the past. I think I spent around $50, and I wasn't particularly impressed with the results.

That was the general consensus from the people I asked about it. I won't bother then. 😛

Right, sending people directly to a website from Facebook is going to be a drag - cause you can't keep the people. However, Facebook is designed for lead generation. Well, actually all of the big advertising things: AdWords, BingAds, Twitter Ads etc. are better as lead generators.
