What do you all think of this? At the moment they are leaving Instagram as a sole service, meaning that it will stay the same (for the most part). However, I can imagine in due time that it will become more and more integrated with Facebook.

This is an effort by Facebook to move more into the mobile markets, where technology has been weening itself into for quite some time.

What do you all think? For more information, Google is your friend.

Maybe I live in the stone age but I never heard of Instagram before the buyout. I wonder if it's worth it but according to a lot of the posts that I've seen on my facebook, it seems like facebook overpaid. But even if they overpaid, I think they are aware of it. Perhaps they just want to flex some financial muscle and show it to the world.

It was mainly used by teenagers, but was starting to grow bigger and bigger and that's why FaceBook decided to buy it. And for one billion dollars? Yeah, that sounds like a lot, but for FaceBook it's like ten dollars... I think they juts wanted to give Instagram a good offer that they knew they would accept so it had no chance of getting bigger and stealing some of FaceBook's activity. I'm betting Instagram would have sold themselves for a lot cheaper than one billion dollars, but that's just my opinion. 😛

My best guest is soon members of Instagram would be forced to join Facebook, or use their Facebook account to login to Instagram. Facebook also might put Facebook ads in the sidebar, and footer.

Facebook also might want the staff since talented and experience programmers, graphic designers, and marketing staff for companies could be hard to find like how the staff members of Flock Web browser now works for Zynga, and Rockmelt Social web browser has Facebook as a shareholder : http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/Fa ... rowser.php .

No programmers, graphic designers, or marketers are worth $1 Billion lol.

I love instagram. Hopefully Facebook doesnt get its taint all over it.<br /><br />-- Sun Apr 15, 2012 7:45 am --<br /><br />I love instagram. Hopefully Facebook doesnt get its taint all over it.

Talented staff can create products which are worth and make billions of dollars like Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Mark Z., and Michael Dell who all created products which generated billions in revenue with Apple, Windows, Facebook, and Dell computers.

Talented staff like that are not going to work their asses off for some company and make them millions if they could do it themselves. Otherwise Steve Jobs and Bill Gates would have continued working for Atari as programmers making some dumb games lol

Most Instagram users already integrate themselves with Facebook by manually copy and pasting links- I am also pretty sure that their is a plugin to automatically post stuff to Facebook from Instagram.

Facebook paid $1bil which is a lot, but yeah it's almost nothing to them considering that they are worth TENS if not HUNDREDS more than that. They bought it to enter into the Mobile market as Instagram is integrated directly with smart phones. Along with that, acquiring a competitor is a huge plus.

As far as requiring Instagram users to sign up for Facebook. They probably realize that most of Instagram's users already are on Facebook. As Mark Zuckerburg said in a speech to executives: "Most of your users are already on Facebook and if not, they will be soon..." and then he laughs (quote is how I remembered, it and is not the precise language used).
Furthermore, Facebook is smart enough to integrate it slowly and not put a huge Facebook stamp on it. In fact it is quite likely that if nobody announced the buyout the Instagram users may not even have realized the buyout for quite some time.

A billion. Wow. 0_o

I must have been living under a rock or something, haven't heard of Instagram. To be honest, Facebook earns a lot of money, they can afford it for more profit.

I wonder does Instagram have any important patents, and copyrighted work which Facebook can install onto Facebook.

It would be kind of weird and could be annoying if people start converting all their regular pictures on Facebook to vintage style photos like Instagram photos.

You are kidding right? Facebook started as a project that took off to be $100 Billion? and you are saying no one is worth that? Facebook probably paid $1 Billion because they saw something in the codes that we can't understand. they paid big time because they wanted to - and they are acquiring companies which used to be done by Google every time a newcomer in the industry makes some noise. This may be a statement for Google as well.

What does that have to do with anything? They purchased the project sure but unfortunately for your argument slavery is frowned upon these days so no they didn't purchase the people who made the code. No codemonkey will create a multi billion dollar project for a company since if they have the opportunity they'll leave like any sensible person, otherwise Bill Gates woulds till work for Atari or Gabe Newell would still work for Micrsoft
