i recently created a page on facebook to try and promote the kpop forum i created last month.
truth is, i know nothing about facebook. i have never used it before and i did not have a facebook profile until now...
so i got 0 friends on facebook to share the page with.

what i have been doing is twitterfeed and sharing posts from other pages
sharing threads on facebook and also link it to my tumblr and share a few tumblr posts on there.

but what else can i do (free) to promote the page to hopefully attract more fans to the forum eventually?

should i just build up my profile account first and try get fans to friend me or something?
i do not however want to make the profile personal.... hence why i have never used i before

thank you <3

Facebook have some fairly harsh algorithms that mean that it's near impossible to get members for your site without paying for advertising. It's actually gotten worse in recent times. I get that they are there to make a profit, but they've really crushed on the small business and non-profit communities.

We have something like 400 likes on our page, but most of those are members from our community or people who haven't signed up to our new site, but are following along from the other site while they decide if they want to join or not XD.

Also, when you make a post on FB, it goes out to less than 10% of your followers. Possibly nearer to 4%. We have an FB group with 140 members, so we post important things in there because all members get a notification, or send out an email.

Twitter has much better odds.

You could try joining groups on FB that are similar to your target market and make some friends. You need to have a network on FB really that can share stuff I think. I don't have that myself because I prefer to keep my personal account separate from the page.

thanks
i didn't know there were groups i could join and meet people
this might be helpful
definitely not going to pay lol

You're very welcome. I wouldn't spam links to your site in there. You'll get your butt banned and reported. Rather, just invite people that you do make friends with to like your page and try to post on the page regularly. I haven't time for that myself recently, so haven't been keeping tabs on the social media end. XD. ^^

As far as engagement goes I have found that including something "interactive" in every post boost engagement a lot (views, click throughs, likes, etc). This could be things like a graphic/photo, link, sharing a post.... things along that line. Make use of the statistics that Facebook provide you and Google Analytics to further analysis what is working and what isn't. I agree that it really helps if you already have sort of a network/community built up to keep sharing.

thank you, appreciate the tips 😀

I know this is for tips for info on how to freely boost your page but by spending only $5 you can get almost a 14% interaction increase depending on size and other factors

thanks but yeah i am not willing to spend money on it haha
but so far so good, page gotten more likes because i joined groups and stuff!

Create a page, that's free and do the hard work on getting links since advertisement is not cheap option on facebook when it pops up on your screen saying promotion

My facebook advice is to not expect much from it in terms of drawing in new people. I'd use it to keep your current audience engaged.
