They are effective to drive traffic to your website and promoting your services. Active promotions help to generate only traffic, but I think paid ads are good for promotions.
I've never gotten any help from social media. I guess I don't really have the patience for it. I admin forums so that I can use forums, not social media, which I do not like at all. I find that if you build up a good relationship with a community like FP, people will join your site. Faceebok, etc, are too crowded to build an effective brand now adays. Forums are a much better option, I think.
I created pages on both and Twitter has over 600 followers. I had to follow a bunch of people to get noticed and then they started following me back. About half of my followers are people I have followed first.
The FB page is growing slowly. I seem to be picking up a little notice but not as quickly as Twitter. I feel like the likes are more genuine than Twitter though.
I created an ad for FB to run over the next week. I am pending approval first. I will see if I think FB ads work for me. I did get one new member today that was fresh and not someone who knew someone. I hope to get more of that.
Interesting. 🙂 Hope the social media stuff works out. Make sure to keep us posted with the results. I've used Facebook ads before, and they actually worked pretty well.
I love Facebook and will be getting more involved with Twitter here shortly. I've had a decent amount of traffic from Facebook and Google+. The trick is, to not give up and to continue to grow. :]
I have continued to gain new members. I notice a lot register and then don't post. I'm not sure why people would go through the trouble and then not post so I worry there is something turning them off after they sign up.
The ad is still running and claims to be getting about 20 new clicks on my site/day. I also gained a couple of likes to my FB page. I think at this point just letting people know a site exists is progress.
