I'm not sure how I feel about this. On one hand, I'm annoyed that Facebook is trying to copy twitter, but Instagram (owned by Facebook) also has hashtags so they could also just be (or say they are) unifying their services.
In the end, it doesn't really matter. It'll be interesting to see how it's implemented.
It doesn't really bother me unless people overuse hashtags. Also, considering people often connect their Twitter to post on Facebook, that's probably the reason behind why so many people were using hashtags on FB when they weren't really useful.
Well yeah, but now they don't look like a fool doing it :/
I mean, why would you need hashtags on Facebook? I personally find it annoying at best. For example, here is an exert from one of my friends image using hashtags:
"Don't feel well , #sick #ill, #feeling green #not happy #can't work # call in # no fun #bad start to weekend #mad"
Really? Why do you need to list 6 different hashtags for how you feel? I mean, I just don't find the logic in it. If you want to hashtag, cool....go use Twitter.
The hashtag can be a better way to help Facebook users find related Facebook Posts rather than using tags, categories, and other navigational type links which look like regular website links with anchor text since most people who are savvy with Twitter know that clicking on a #hashtag won't redirect them to a outside website away from Facebook or Twitter.
The Hashtag can be a good way to follow a topic, or poll how many people are posting about one topic.
