What are your thoughts about people being too religious or fanatics? It could be in any religions not only Christian or Islam or whatever.

I personally believe God exists, but I don't go to people and lecture them with what I believe is true and you go to hell if you don't have the same idea as I have.

I have seen couple of people actually in college where they hold a sign of something about sin and people must repent and they made it totally a bizarre thing. Many students surround them just to debate, which made me go there to see what's going on. Don't they have somewhere else to go to talk about this type of thing? Why it has to be in center of buildings.

Oh and there were couple of ladies coming to me just to ask " Do you believe in Jesus? ". What if I don't? What if I am atheist? would that make me a bad person?

I had to enforce a no religious debates rule on my forums.. The only debate topic Ive ever had to ban. It gets out of control and usually results in loss of members.

Being an atheist, I find it immensely annoying on BC's "Mature Discussion" forum when people back up the reasons for their beliefs with the Bible, Qu'aran or Torrah. It drives me up the wall because it doesn't seem like enough evidence. Many of them don't believe in science. 😵

Then again I'm not going to shut down potentially interesting debates due to a bunch of closed minded fanatics.

I don't like religious discussions on forums unless it is strictly a forum about religion. I don't allow religious discussions on my own forum either, simply the fact of the matter being that we are all of different religions, and one persons beliefs could be different from anothers, which as Theezy said, could easily be a loss of members. So I don't like discussing religion on the Internet really.

But what about politics then? Will you shut down political debates as well? Sex - that's another big one. Should that go too?

I'm fine with people discussing all those ''controversial topics'' in the ''Mature Discussion'' forum of my site. So far I've lost no one due to that forum. I don't see the problem with it.

The thing about religion is that it's almost TOO controversial. If I even allow religious discussions on my board, they're moderated with a passion. People are raised with many different beliefs, and because they have absolutely no evidence to prove those beliefs wrong, they STRONGLY stand up for them. Simply because of how they're raised. And many of the people who have strong beliefs in religion will stand up for it more than they will any other topic, because of reasons in their psyche (such as, especially, fear of uncertainty).

It may not have happened to you yet, and it may not happen to you at all if you're lucky. But a lot of flame wars start over the topic of religion, and I almost make it a point to outlaw it's discussion on any board I have. I do not care if someone is a Devil Worshipper, Wiccan, Catholic, Muslim, or any other type of religion. I simply ask they don't bring it to my board.

I've been on many forums and I've never seen any problems like you mentioned before. And if people flame MD (Mature Discussion) they get banned from that section. I've never had to take that step before but I'm prepared to take it if necessary.

I expect that everyone on the forum is over 13 and I have plenty of warnings both in the MD forum description and pinned threads within saying that it's meant for a mature audience and that one may be offended by the content.

Maybe my forum is more mature than yours :lol:

If you've never had it happen ANYWHERE you've ever gone, then you must stick to a really safe side of the webs. I've had it happen at various points years ago as an Owner or Admin, or just a simple registered user. The users were aware of the rules and the warnings, and they lashed out in religious debates anyway. And if idiotic admins (like ones I've seen in the past) let such things continue, then it can completely destroy a community. I stamp it out if I see things like "Who do you think is right?", users are fine to state their beliefs in various discussions or introductions. But those who come up with those types of threads, or those that lash out against others' beliefs will be "stamped out", likely banned. If you've never even seen this happen, and have covered all your bases, then good for you. :yes:

As for me, I strongly practice a religion (not to hard to figure out, but won't be explicitly saying it in this post), but have no problem with people being another religion. I'm also interested in religion and when ignorant idiots attack a certain religion and are wrong about it, I am sure to correct.

Don't get me wrong, I am interested in the topic of religion as well. I'm just the kind of person who thinks that because of religious differences and the contoversy of it, it should only be kept in religious related forums only. Politics I don't mind, as long as it doesn't turn to flaming or seriously bad.

It's pretty rare to have a discussion or debate on religion and not have a flame war or something of the sort spring up unless it's on a board about religion. There was one on my board, first in the shoutbox then a thread in the forum itself and it went well mostly because the people there can handle it. 😀

I wouldn't ban it persay unless it was a major problem but closely watch those threads because of the high chance it will get ugly.
