Does anybody here like Fantastico?
I used to but everything is outdated. For example Fantastico is on SMF 1.1.4 or 1.1.5 and Simple Machines has already updated it to 1.1.7
Plus it is good to get experience setting things up.

It depends what host you are on... The host FP is on is good at keeping it up to date so all the versions available are new. Ours is on SMF 1.1.7 -😉-

I only use it for testing to test out a script as it is easy to install.

Oh. I guess paid hosting keeps it up to date.

It's not just that... Some hosts like to keep everything updated while some tend not to keep things as updated and only upgrade when they have to.

The same could be said with php versions.... Some hosts have outdated php versions like 5.2.4 but some hosts always keep upto date and have the latest release as soon as possible on their servers. That happens on both free and paid hosts.

Yeah I noticed this when I installed SMF on fantastico.

I really dont see why people need it anyway. I can install a copy of phpBB in a few min, and its really no bother. Longest part is downloading and uploading it over my slow connection.

Yes an out of date version of phpBB.

I use flahost.com and they keep it all up to date, like most hosts do. Free hosts tend not to care.

Fantastico has directed me to some cool programs/scripts that I never even knew existed. If fantastico was a member here I would give it a rep point.. Lol 😛

While that is true, most of those programs could have been found with abit of google-ing. Unless you didnt know what you wanted to start with -razz-

I sometimes use it, the hosting I use offers both Fantastico and Installatron.

My host (blueHost) take great pride in keeping Fantastico (and their own script base) up to date. The only problem with any fantastico is that:

1) They won't always install properly (especially phpBB)
2) You will not be entitled to official support for the product you installed via Fantastico. For example if I installed Wordpress via Fantastico, I would not be entitled to official Wordpress support.
