Farewell Skype

I'm surprised this didn't happen sooner. I used Skype to talk with one of my childhood friends back in the early 10s and used it to communicate with staff here back in the day as well as on Mighty No. 9 Universe.

I have never used Skype but I know a lot of people did for a long time.

It's been years since I used skype. On a big forum where I used to be an Admin, some of the staff would get together and work reports as a group to get through the 11 pages of reported posts. Huge place! Lots of work. It was fun working with the other staff, but we found that we turned into a militia of sorts.

It took forever to get the staff here to get off of skype, as a few people at one point didn't want to transition to something a little easier to use. Channel Ownership was an annoying thing to deal with on skype. If you didn't properly remove ownership from someone before they left, the thing never removed it from them, and would give back ownership access if they ever joined the group chat after leaving. Hated that.

I had no idea that it worked that way!

It is sad to see this. I still use Skype myself daily and now having to find an alternative which is looking like it may be Discord once Skype closes.

Sad times. I used to use Skype regularly for years before everyone moved over to Discord to play games with friends and just have a good time chatting with each other.

I logged back into my old account just to see if there was anything worth trying to save for the memories before it goes away, but pretty much all of it was either stuff I'd rather leave in the past or spam bots trying to message me.

I still use it to talk to my family, but it feels like we're the only people in the world who still use it 😛 . I'm sure we'll find something else, though.

Still, given that I have so many happy memories of it, I'll be sad to see it go!

I haven't used Skype in years, but I still got it installed, and it's open as soon as my laptop boots up. I use Zoom or discord nowadays. That being said, some people still use it, you know, I mean, older people do anyway.

Shame to see it go, but ever since Microsoft took ownership it has never been the same since.

I used to love skype at one time. I had a group of friends from a different forum who would chat (type) daily on there!! Then we fell out of it and I really didn't return much. I don't care for Discord and I'm not even sure why.

Almost near to closing date. There are still so many people who use Skype still.. And so gonna be interesting to see what they end up feeling and going to.

I won't miss Skype at all. I hated it. Annoying to use. Now, one thing I truly miss is MSN Messenger.

Skype was the app that pioneered video calls. It was so popular in around 2008 to 2012 that almost everyone had Skype on their PC. It really is painful to see that Skype is no more.
