Fascist regime of America leading the fight against freedom

The US Government seems to be going after bittorrent and counterfeit websites by stealing their domain names even without this new COICA bill being passed and made law.

The US Government has seized a number of sites in the US related to copyright infringement, one of the sites seized is a BitTorrent search engine called torrent-finder.com.
If you visit the site, you will see the following message (pictured below), which shows that the site has been seized by ICE and Homeland Security Investigations.

The seized site doesn’t host any torrent files, and has no torrent tracker, it also list no copyright works, unless someone searches for it, the site is in effect a search engine, similar to Google, albeit specifically for BitTorrent files.

Apparently, you can have your domain seized if it can be used to find pirated material, but almost any search engine can be used to find torrents.

I don't get why homeland security needs to be part of seizing counterfeit and bittorrent domain names since they don't pose much of a likely threat to US security.
They pose a threat to american their profits.

I think it's good. I fully support it and think more people should be punished for copyright infringement.

Re: Fascist regime of America leading the fight against free

But, some of the Bittorent search engines might be used for good like searching up which torrent has the most peers/seeders which are sharing the latest version of OpenOffice, Ubuntu, open source software, public domain media, and non-copyrighted video.

Makes a lot of sense to prosecute people for something that does no harm. 10 years ago this would have been describing homosexuality.

My bad, I forgot that a puppy dies every time I download a song. I'll repent for my sins mafiaa

Re: Fascist regime of America leading the fight against free

No but every time you download a song, sales goes down. Every time CD sales goes down, they make less money on albums. They make less money on albums it affects everyone in the industry who is not the star. They are now struggling to put food on the table. Piracy is wrong, immoral, and stupid. If you think the government is wrong for cracking down on illegal downloads, well then you sir are sadly mistaken. You probably didn't even vote in your last elections, which goes to prove my point.

Wrong: how do many people discover new bands? Downloading music. Example I've used before
I went to a The Acacia Strain concert this weekend (this was about a month ago). While I was there, I bought a $15 tee shirt made by a local screen printer in addition to the cost of the ticket. Thus, I supported the economy, supported the band, and moshed & got my ears shot in one night. How did this happen? I learned that a bassist for another band I listen to did some fill ins for The Acacia Strain, and downloaded a single, "Skynet." Now if I never downloaded this song, would I have ever gone to the show and supported the economy/band? No.
In addition, I am buying a few of their CDs very soon, probably next time I get paid.

Every time CD sales goes down, they make less money on albums.
Wrong: A lot of musicians don't even make money on their albums, unless the musician is very well known and sells millions of albums. The record label takes their cut, there is a cost to make the CDs, promote the CDs, and hire somebody to record, produce, and mix. AND the enormous cost of renting studio space. Most musicians make the majority (or all) of their money on tour.

They make less money on albums it affects everyone in the industry who is not the star. They are now struggling to put food on the table.
Not really: I know of musicians that have part time jobs in addition to touring and such. They don't struggle to put food on the table. They work normal jobs.
Why does a band that sells 60,000-plus records and has toured with Chimaira and Arch Enemy have trouble paying its bills? “We signed a bad publishing contract, and we had some management issues and other business problems, which is why I’m still living in my mom’s basement,” admits Labonte with a sigh. So to make ends meet, he works in a friend’s store in the mall when he’s not on tour; Hebert gives guitar lessons to pay rent; guitarist Mike Martin, who was once one of Hebert’s students, toils away in his parents’ liquor store; and Sagan works at the local Dunkin Donuts.
Piracy is wrong, immoral, and stupid. If you think the government is wrong for cracking down on illegal downloads, well then you sir are sadly mistaken. You probably didn't even vote in your last elections, which goes to prove my point.
Actually I didn't because I was less than a year away from being legally able to vote. However, I know exactly who I would have voted for, had I been able to vote.

Re: Fascist regime of America leading the fight against free

What's to stop you from just downloading all their music when you find them and like them. Don't see your logic.

I forgot that every time I download a music file $0.99 is removed from the starving artists RIAA's account. I'll go and be and good sheep now and follow the American way.

But yeah I didn't vote, I'm not 18 quite yet. Registering for the Pirate Party US the day I'm 18 though :cheer:

Nice. Well as long as you believe in something, better than not believing in anything.

Nothing. However how many torrents are in lossless or CD quality? Not many. Plus I buy a bunch of CDs anyway, as long as they're on sale. And the price for CDs has dropped recently as well...
