Website Name:Promotion Box
Website Link: http://promotion-box.com
When was your website founded?: 2011
Which would you like?: Advanced Review
Notes:

Please DO NOT focus to heavily on activity levels, we have been shut for some time and just want a review to see what we can change before officially re-opening.

Nice to see Promotion Box back up and running. I think a lot of work needs to be done to be honest to get it back to what it was like before. I think the team needs to be allocated again and the forums need to be populated with more posts as many forums havn't been posted in for a while now. Maybe a new theme would attract some new people to join

Good luck with it 🙂. Just being nosey - did you buy the forum?

Promotion Box
Review by xXInfectedXx

My first impressions of your forum is positive. You have really put allot of time and effort in designing that logo. You have over 60,000 posts which would probably encourage more traffic to Promotion Box.

However, you need to get more package team members and open back up the posting service for users. I fell this is very important and this would get you more traffic to your forum.

I notice that there was a "Share this page" box. I would recommend having this towards the top of the forum because members and guests will see this straight away and you will probably gain more traffic if you do this.

Overall, you don't have a bad forum here. You just need to make a few improvements. If you make a few improvements and remain active on your community, the forum can be really successful.

Our current theme is already a custom made theme 🙂.
Can I just ask which theme are you going to use - PB 3.0 or 3.1?

PB v2 is what is currently default. v3 was started some time ago and was just there for members to see the start. v3.1 went up to allow us to fix v2 when we upgraded Xenforo.

Maybe you could add more content into the sidebar as because the forum is quite long, most of the sidebar section is empty when scrolling down. Things like latest news, latest threads and even advertisements could be placed there

This is a good suggestion and something which I can look into.

I am familiar with this forum, and I am surprised to see it trying to make a comeback. Promotion Box has been around for a very long time, and I remember when Sylar and Dean were working on it together. That was probably when I first learned about XenForo. It's been ages since then. I am hopeful that you'll be able to get the forum going again. It would be nice to see another active promotion forum around here.

As far as my opinion on the forum, the first thing I notice is the logo. The member above says that it hurts his eyes, but it doesn't bother me at all. My concern is the font. It looks cool and all, but the "X" looks like an "H." I read the logo as "PROMOTION BOH." I think it would be good to go ahead and get a new logo. You want to bring all the old active members to the forum, but at the same time, you need to make some changes to make things different. You have a nice custom style and I recommend that you keep it, but a simple change to the logo, favicon, board icons, and advertisement banners would be beneficial to you.

I would recommend that you update the "Premium Ads:" links. If I am not mistaken, the websites that are being advertised are only there from when Collin was running it. I would go ahead and remove them. Also, the "Your Ad Here!" text links to the index. You need to make a topic or something where you have premium advertising prices listed. I know your forum is just now getting started back up, but you've still been getting traffic all this time, so these advertisements still have some value. I personally would be interested in buying an advertisement link for the right price.

In your promotion board, you have this: "You Must Have 5 Posts to Bump every 24 hours. Otherwise you may only bump once every 48 hours. This is to reward our active members." The capitalization is very strange? Why do you have "Must" and "Bump" capitalized? I recommend fixing that, and also making the text the same color as the rest of the text in the board description. You can make it stand out by making that text bold. At the moment, that red is kind of atrocious. My eyes don't like that color at all. 😛

You also have the offline package service. If you are going to have a promotion service offline for an extended period of time, I recommend hiding the board. It looks bad to have a service closed down, usually it means that there is something wrong going on at the forum. In all seriousness, it wouldn't be a bad idea to remove the package service altogether for now. That is a difficult service to maintain, and I think you have bigger issues to deal with at the moment. Getting the forum active again is your primary concern. As for the other services, It might be a good idea to remove the bubble ads. It's nice to see that service seeing as it's been a very long time since I've seen it, but no one is going to pay attention to it. You already have the table ads above it, and the premium text links below it. I do like the bundle service though. It looks like a cool idea.

Finally, if you are going to have other themes installed, I recommend keeping them up to date and having them properly edited. Don't have the default logo or dead links in the footer. I say this because of the "Promotion-Box v3.1" theme. It's a beautiful theme that I have always liked, but you need to have a valid link where the "Donate to us!" button is. Then there is the "Like us on Facebook" section in the footer, and it still shows Audentio Design's Facebook page. You should probably fix that, assuming you are planning on keeping the theme around. In my opinion, the logo on "Promotion-Box v3.1" looks better than the logo on "Promotion Box v2." Others may disagree though.

I guess that's all of my input at the moment. Good luck with your forum. I'll be rooting for you. 🙂

Promotion Box

First Impressions
[note]========== BEGIN - First Impressions ==========[/note]
Upon my first visit to Promotion Box, I'm quite impressed with what I see. The theme of the forum looks good and clear with no bugs or glitches that I could find. However, your logo looks quite confusing. It reads almost "Promotion Boh" which makes absolutely no sense. I recommend that you replace your current logo with some a little bit better, something that says "Promotion Box" a little bit better. It's very important to have a logo that clearly represents your forum community because, the forum logo is the first thing a guest will see upon entering your site. Whenever there is any sort of confusion with your first impressions in your logo, it can create confusion to which site a visitor is on.

Design Quality
[note]========== BEGIN - Design Quality ==========[/note]
As I said above, your logo needs to be changed up a little to be more clear. However, your theme is very well put together and looks good for a forum in your genre. While your theme looks good, it isn't a "draw me in" type theme. You need to help give your visitors a better impression of your forum. The best way to do this is to make a theme that people love to look at. Obviously, if people want to look at your theme, they'll want to look at your forum, and if people want to look at your forum, your chances are far better of turning lurkers into returning members.

Site Statistics
[note]========== BEGIN - Site Statistics ==========[/note]
I will fully comply with your request not to ramble about your Statistics in this category right now, because your forum is undergoing a revamp. Your posts per day isn't very bad especially considering you're revamping the forum. The biggest issue you have here is threads. Most of your threads are from years ago. Very few of your discussion threads are even from this year. You need to start small. Try having you and your staff members make one thread per day. If you make one thread per day, even with just two staff members, that will still mean you have over seven hundred threads per year. Seven hundred threads per year is a whole lot of discussion that can take place.

Originality
[note]========== BEGIN - Originality ==========[/note]
Originality is probably the hardest thing to accomplish in the promotion genre. People do not want something that they can get somewhere else, they want a promotion service that is unique. Promotion Box unfortunately fits the mold of a regular promotion forum. It has some basic uniqueness to it with "Bubble Ads" and "Table Ads." While both of these services are offered at very many promotion forums, it's still a good start towards having good originality. Unfortunately though, Promotion Box will need more than just a start. Promotion Box needs a service that no one else will provide to their users. If Promotion Box can find such a service, they'll have something true to stand out from the rest of the forums in the promotion genre. I have absolutely no idea what this service should be, but try as many things as you can. It never hurts if the worst thing that happens is a idea doesn't take off.

Site Structure
[note]========== BEGIN - Site Structure ==========[/note]
When I scroll to the bottom of Promotion Box, I see a service called "Bubble Ads." Right now, all the service spades are not full. You've done a good job substituting the "Your Ad Here" banner. However, when I click on the button, it takes me to a dead page. You should set it up so that the "Your Ad Here" can take me to a guidelines page or the service forum. Doing this will help your service get more requests, because the service will be linked in more places around your forum.

You have a few unneeded boards right now. The "Promotion Box Loves" category looks like it's out of place right now, and there isn't a better place to put it right now. A better prize right now would be some free services. There really doesn't look like much promotional gain with just the forum sitting there. A rotating ad in the header would do a lot better to help someone promote, and it would help decrease the current clutter and unneeded boards on your index.

Spelling & Professionalism
[note]========== BEGIN - Spelling & Professionalism ==========[/note]
The entire description for "Passport Control" sounds a bit odd. It reads "Promotion Box loves new people...like really love new people. Tell us a bit about yourself and I'm sure you will fit straight in." the entire last sentence sounds really awkward. You need to change it to sound more exciting and welcoming. Something more like "Promotion Box loves new people, really, we do love new people! Tell us a bit about yourself and I'm sure you will fit right in with the community." saying something more like that would sound a lot better.

Sometimes while listing things in the guidelines, you use a slash mark instead of a comma. For example "edit/lock/delete" should be "edit, lock or delete." In grammatically correct English. This is not a huge thing that's unreadable, it's a pretty minor thing. The grammar in most everything is very good. This shows that you've taken your time to write proper guidelines to Promotion Box.

Final Remarks
I've greatly enjoyed writing this review for Promotion Box. Promotion Box needs a more clear logo, some more uniqueness, and some more fresh activity to help with the revival. As long as you can fix these things, and you stick with Promotion Box, you'll find the success you're looking for. Good luck!

I took a look at the various themes you have, and the v3 theme doesn't look right. You have a PB logo with a customised header which looks great. And then you have the default XF logo along with the default navbar that hasn't been styled at all. I'm not sure if that's a work in progress or it wasn't never bothered to be fixed. Either way, the theme should be disabled for now till everything has been done with it.

Even though activity hasn't been great, I have seen that other the past few months actually that you still have members checking in and trying to continue the discussions and even get new ones going. That's actually pretty great because once a community really goes into the dormant state and ultimately goes inactive, all drive to push it forward isn't there. While most of it has been general chit chat in passing by, you've still got people checking in and posting. What you can do is ultimately try to capitalize on that and start a small contest maybe that can easily attract both old and new members fast. Promotion Box back in the day was one of the promotion forums whose name was being mentioned quite a lot. With the right work and dedication, it might have a shot at climbing up the ladder of some of the more respected promotion forums.

One final thing is that as you're rebuilding, dissect everything you have from the forum sections, to your services, and even the addons you have. I'm sure that most of these haven't been touched in a while, so take some time and just feel around and nit pick. You're in a time to where you can make or break the forum, so see what works and what doesn't. And while this can also be a go or no go depending on the forum and situation, turn some decisions to the member base. Start up some update topics and some feedback topics on some ideas you have.

Best of luck with the revival and reopening. 🙂

I honestly don't see much activity going on. A few areas have been posted in this month, only one has been posted in today (a post I made), and that doesn't look good to guests or returning members. Forget about any big revamp you have planned, new content should be your main focus if you plan to bring this forum back.

Honestly, I'll just be blunt here, I think PB has been through too much to come back now. Sometimes bringing back a big forum with a big name can help you, but there have been so many attempts on and off to revamp PB that I feel like people have just lost trust and interest in it. Start new is my suggestion for this, if you really want a promotion forum that is.
