Annoying colours is personal opinion, I find them fine but others wont. Also it kinda matches his forum. Maybe if it was a darker shade of blue and grey text it would match.

The forum is broken, that is a temporary theme while the new site is under development, so the color scheme doesn't matter. Thanks for the feedback.

The colors don't match, the fonts don't match, and the link is the last thing to appear. If I want to get to the forums, I don't want to have to wait for a link. Yes, I know I could just click the blank area before it appears, but others might not know that.

In my opinion, I would suggest simply making it static text and perhaps putting a creative image that looks cool but also communicates the idea of the site being under construction. Maybe once you have a mockup of the new "2.0" version of the site,y ou could take a low-resolution screenshot of the index as a "teaser" and then put it there to get people interested.
