First Impressions
[note]========== BEGIN - First Impressions ==========[/note]
Once FeedbackExchange had loaded, I was impressed by how professional the forum looked. Everything was very clean and clear and it all made sense. If I was a guest looking for a community to get reviews on my site, I'd definitely join FeedbackExchange simply because of how good it looks. To me, there is nothing you could do to improve the first impression - it's perfect already. Great job!

The theme looks beautiful and everything is sharp, it's very professional and exactly how I'd expect something like a review focused community to look. There is nothing that looks out of place and you've used some very nice, well fitting forum images. I must point out that you have a missing image, you have to look closely but if you scroll down to the bottom of the page and then look at the bottom very bottom left, you'll see a "missing image" image. It is very hard to notice because it's only about 1/4 exposed.

Site Structure
[note]========== BEGIN - Site Structure ==========[/note]
If there's one thing that I had to choose that I didn't like about ForumExchange, it would be the site structure. I think that there is an overwhelming amount of forums there and they need to be cut down. Maybe the use of sub-forums would do it or possibly just merging them together completely. I especially hate the fact that your Off-Topic of "General Discussion" category has so many forums within it, in fact it is almost if not, is as populated as the on-topic categories. As I said, the use of sub-forums and or complete merges are the way to go.

Poor

Beside the site structure and the fact that some of the forums haven't been posted in a while, I really like FeedbackExchange. It isn't something that you see done too often and is very useful. I'm sure it will continue to grow if you just keep on working at it. I wish you the very best of luck! 🙂

Thanks for the feedback. 🙂

I'm considering making Books and Project Updates into subforums. Do you think those are good ideas?

Anything that de-clutters the forum whilst still making sense is a good idea. 🙂

I agree on the layout length. Here are my suggested moves:

- Make Idea Surveys a sub forum somewhere

- Make Open Source Feedback a sub forum in Website Feedback

- Make Website Content a sub forum under Administrating a Community

- Combine Gaming & Technology, or make them sub forums under the same forum.

- Make Books and Current Events both sub forums under Off Topic

That's not perfect but it should help a lot and get you started anyways.

Thanks. 🙂 I'll think about those.

EDIT: I've made a few changes. Thoughts?

A few changes have been made tot he site.

1. We're now hosted on a VPS server, so the website now loads much faster.
2. I've implemented many of the changes suggested here, and improved the organization of the forum.

Thoughts? 🙂

I'm now requesting a re-review, since I made a few improvements as suggested by other users, and the recent review. 🙂

Design Quality

I really like the design of your site, it's got a clean feel to it and doesn't distract from the content. You're making use of a sidebar, but since you placed it on the right and it's therefore the last thing one sees on the page, it's not distracting and fits into the theme well. Your sidebar also isn't overloaded with ads or anything annoying, so that makes it more bearable to look at as well. Overall, well done with the design for your forum!

Excellent

Originality

Your forum is bit unique as a promotion forum in that it focuses on reviews and feedback rather than just your typical promotion directly. When you launched the forum, I recall you using the idea of give feedback to get feedback. I think bringing back that concept (which seems to have been lost as time went on) would help you with activity a bit. Set up some sort of system that requires users to post on other sites/forums' threads and give feedback to them before they can post their topic and get feedback. I'm not sure how you can do this on a long term basis with regular or returning members, but for new members, you can set it so you have to make x posts before being able to make a topic in the feedback forums and only let posts in the feedbacks forums count towards your post count. That may sound extreme, but since your focus is on feedback, I would think it could work well.

Good

Site Structure

Since I last looked at your forum, it seems you have definitely done some adjusting to your layout and condensed a few of your sections, particularly in the feedback category. That's a great thing to see and was my main problem with the site. I still think it could use some work though, mainly in the admin and general discussion categories. As I mentioned above, your primary focus should be (and is) on giving and getting feedback. I don't think you need to have a ton of forums as you do for discussion on other things. Perhaps on admin related topics, yes, but general discussion shouldn't be a focus. 1-2 Off Topic/General forums would be enough just so users have that option available. I'd save the other general discussion themes for other types of boards that are more suited for those topics. Of course, if you want to dedicate the time to pumping content into those sections and make it a focus of your forum, there's nothing wrong with that either (but from the looks of things, it doesn't seem like that's the case much).

Good

Final Remarks
Your forum is unique in its concept and has potential, you just need to work on tweaking the structure, set up and focus to make it more successful. Focus on feedback if that's what you want your forum to be about, don't try to have general discussion just because other forums do. Excel in one area that you're good at and be know for that.

Ooh, this has fallen pretty far down the forum 😛

FE has merged with PromotionCurve, meaning that FeedbackExchange now has 10,700 posts. Anyone see any issues with the merge? 🙂

The forum is good. I think your forum looks professional and simple.

Your forum has good sections where users can post and get information about their websites.

First Impressions
[note]========== BEGIN - First Impressions ==========[/note]
When I first visit Feedback Exchange, I like the pleasant theme and the forum icons give the forum a nice look. I notice a good amount of categories and forums to post in. I like the top icon navigation bar and the large yellow call to action banner. I think that it's repetitive to have the "create an account" side box when there is the the same thing at the very top of the forum and large banner. I think you would better off without it. It would remove a space, so you could add in another module. I see the blog is outdated with the last entry being October 2nd. That doesn't look good to a blog with months old posts, so you could hide the dates if it allows you to or post new content on the blog. I prefer the second option myself because I there are may subjects you can write about and get the blog active again. Overall Feedback Exchange gives me a good first impression and if I was a guest I would probably sign up.

You have a couple different theme for your members to choose from, which is nice because it gives them options. I'm not a big fan of the current logo, it just seems too plain in my opinion. I would like to see something with a little more color in it and a different font. Though, I do like the light bulb logo because it ties in nicely with the forums name so I would keep that. The "forum games" and "interrogation room" sub forums do not have a forum icon. That looks odd so I recommend adding the icons in to give everything uniformity. I don't like the Twitter bird icon on the navigation bar next to the three dashed line menu. It just seems out of place to me. I would rather see it under "more" as a link or as an icon in the footer. I would like to see the website sponsors section moved more up in to the footer also.

Site Statistics
[note]========== BEGIN - Site Statistics ==========[/note]
Feedback Exchange currently has 14,350 Total Posts and 406 members. Immediately I see that post and threads are lumped together. I don't really like this method because there is no way to differentiate between posts and threads. I would like the ability to see both. I am not sure if this is available with IPB though. Twenty members have been online today, at the time of writing this review. Feedback Exchange has 406 members total. The amount of members only daily should be much more than that. The amount of users who have even posted out of that twenty is substantially lower also. This shows me that some improvement needs to be made with activity. You have the members, so you are not lacking there, but you need to have active members. This could be achieved through many things, but I recommend buying posts from users on other promotion/admin forums, participating in post exchanges, holding a contest (I would tie in a feedback element to it), and just being more active yourself. More promotion is always good too.

Final Remarks
I enjoyed reviewing Feedback Exchange. Some improvements need to be made but Feedback Exchange has a pretty solid foundation. Activity definitely needs to be improved. I think with some extra effort and work those changed can be made. Good luck with your forum Cosmic!

Honestly, the yellow in the 'Welcome to FE' thingy is... kinda... eh. I'd make it a different color. IMO.
