Is it just me or are they one of the worst forum hosts ever? I have been with many hosts and they have all managed 100% uptime and then the one i chose to stick with ends up being the worst. Anyway luckily for me i moved before the latest downtime problems and now they have lost some data and whole forums which is bad. I know they are new and they are free but other free hosts manage 99.9% uptime and when you point that out all you get is people saying they all have downtime, they all have problems but why do ff have more then other hosts?

When i signed up at freeforums.org my first few days were fast and good then the servers started getting overloaded and it has been problems ever since (3 months).

It's not just you. I've done tech support for various sundry companies in the valley for a few years now, and I thought I'd seen it all.

Boy was I wrong. If you look here you may notice that they weren't even clustering their servers - a fact I find relatively disturbing. Even the crappiest company I worked for had server clusters; it's not like that's cutting edge technology, or anything.

As I indicated in another post, I've lost several pages worth of irreplaceable posts due to the incompetence of whomever is in charge of the servers.

While there are many things I like about FF, it doesn't do a darned bit of good if I loose data. I might as well be posting text files via FTP at that point; at least it would be reliable.

I'm in shock - an entire month's worth of data?!?! I've only had the forum for a month and a half!!!

Grrr - I'm pretty angry about the whole thing. :evil:

I have just noticed because they lost a months worth of data they have also lost about 20 free upgrade points on my forum which takes me back down to 8 points -evil-

If any freeforums.org members have lost any data you are able to post in the advertise your forum section without the 4 required posts.

If this applies to you then i am sorry to hear about the loss and i hope you don't give up on your forum because of it. I know this isn't much but i hope it helps. -🙂-

It looks really good and i have commented on it on the support forums.

I think freeforums will sort themselves out but i knew something was going to happen as no one had access to the backup manager and there was alot of problems hence why i was keen to go to advanced hosting just to get a back up and for better uptime if anything.

I got my advanced hosting through the free upgrades.

They move your forum for free it took less then 12 hours to move mine once i got my account details but you start of with no mods however you can add them yourself or upgrade to phpBB3 at your own risk as it is still RC3 and there is going to be an RC4 i think.

Just to add i am with lunar pages and you get a free domain with it and i have had no problems with it yet.

Yeah, I lost a months work. Lost 200 memorable posts, 40 topics and 23 members. I was just getting the hang of the forum thing.
But, FF.org is one that provides the hosting for my site. Well, I'd change but my forum wasn't deleted. Really frustrating, but I guess I'm sticking with them. Oh how I so want to guilt-trip them. But I guess that's a little unfair, though fully deserving they are of it...

All I can do now is wait for my members to come asking waht happened and hope they rejoin.

My forum went down with the HDD failure. Mine I created July 13 and the basic was still there so I don't know about this June 30 business. But whatever. I bought advanced hosting through lunarpages. I just hope I can get my forum up soon so that I can re-promote it. ~cheesey_grin~
