How long did it take you to find your current host? I don't know what one I'm going with, yet, I'll have to check my emails in the morning or later on tonight, but I didn't think it would take me 2 years to find the right now. As for deciding on my current host, my tie-up choice is between Plutohosting and 365. I almost want to go with PH because I know the owners. Not personally, but the main owner has helped me out of a few tight spots once. As for 365, when I was registering with the site, I was hugely impressed with the speed, and the uptime seemed to be fairly decent as well. How long did it take you to find your current host?

I used a lot over the years. It takes a lot of homework. Look at the reviews before even applying.

I know. I've used a lot over the past two years only. This time I sat down, did my homework, and I'm just hoping and praying it all works out well. Anti-Spam mods, security measures, the whole nine-yards will be taken this time around.

Don't use Akismet, that's one of my advices with MyBB. There's a stopforumspam.com mod on MyBB. With that, reCAPTCHA banning ru and cn email addresses should be more than enough to stop most spam.

What's the link to the Anti-Spam mod for MyBB? Also, I have some tips that I have saved as a private Note on Facebook about protecting yourselves on CT that's going to be part of the rules, I think.

I've been through several hosts, and i'm not positive i'm done yet.

Started on BlueHost over a year ago, good uptime but CPU limits were too slow. Bought a VPS with Santrex, uptime sucks and support is horrid. Shared plan with HawkHost, everything fine, but I need offshore. So I picked AltusHost, though they keep their servers in a datacenter owned by Server.lu. Lately the VPS has been having issues, so I may switch to using the datacenter directly.

Yeah, as I have said in another post, with things going at my job like they currently are, I'm not even sure I'm done finding a host. Does one ever even find a decent host, or do they just do like some of us do and keep searching off and on all the time? I know I run good forums, and I always appreciate your guys' compliments, but I'm actually ready to give up here and now. Of course, by this time this weekend I could have a different opinion. I just wish I can give up, find a good staffing position someplace, and be done with all of it. Or just go back to being a member on forums all together.

I was going from bad host to bad host until someone recommended the host I am currently on to me.

For the web host that I currently use, it took me roughly 5 years to find them and decide to stay with them.

Not long for me, I have unlimited accounts on my paid hosting so I use them all the time for ANYTHING.

Unlimited until you start to "use more than your fair share" anyway, at that point they'll ask you (or suspend and force you) to upgrade to a VPS or dedicated server.

Nothing is unlimited, keep that in mind when host shopping. All it really means is that they won't stop you from hosting as much as you want until you reach an amount that causes them to lose money. For BlueHost, I got a notice when my hosting hit 1GB of data, with a link to their "fair use policy". Oh, and I got kicked when I went over their CPU usage (account frozen for 15 minutes on several occasions).

I haven't had one spammer yet, for some reason. I don't have any mods to prevent them, either. The only "spam" I got was on my comments system, a script written by myself, but it was only one message and one would have to expect a spam post or two.

I think he has a dedicated server. (citation)

I've been using HostGator for several years now. The price is right and I have yet to experience any major downtimes or problems.
