Firefox OS Developer is a community of web developers for a Linux-based open-source alternative operating system for smartphones and tablet computers. We are a new community for a brand new product. Although Firefox OS has been an "idea" for quite some time, it is only recently starting to take shape. Firefox OS Developer is a community forum to accompany the operating system, its end users, and its developers. As the Firefox OS operating system takes shape hopefully so will the community.

Firefox OS is designed to provide a "complete" community-based alternative system for mobile devices, using open standards and approaches such as HTML5 applications, JavaScript, a robust privilege model, open web APIs to communicate directly with cellphone hardware, and application marketplace. As such, it competes with proprietary systems such as Apple's iOS and Microsoft's Windows Phone, as well as other open source systems such as Android and Ubuntu Touch.
