FireFox vs Opera

Prepare to go into a huge debate when Ghost sees this topic. ~lol~

I choose FireFox anyway because I am used to it and have never really used Opera so I don't have an opinion on it.

*Hides from Ghost* ~lol~

I dont really like opera. I dont like the name, appearance, or the way it displays pages on the internet. Firefox is feature packed, very stable, and has a built in spell checker in it. Not to mention all the great add ons you can get for it. Oh, and IE isnt even worth mentioning. 😛

I say FireFox is better. It's quite fast, very stable and has thousands of people developing for it (be it themes or add ons etc.). You simply cannot beat it's MASSIVE amount of add ons, web developer, FireFTP, Ad block plus, Firebug... the list goes on and on.

Im starting to think you guys only do this to see my long posts -lol-

Well thats your fault, theres nothing I can say or do about that one.\

Name...well again, thats your opinion...not facts or anything to prove its a better browser overall. I hate the name Forum Promotion, its too bland, but I love the site. Appearnace...it has skins ya know...you could port a firefox skin over if you really need to, its completly customizeable. It displays the pages pretty much the same, though I like it better its way. For example, when you click in a text field, I dont need an extra fugly yellow outline telling me where I am. If I dont know where I am, then im already having issues arnt I?

Opera has all the same built in features, minus spell check. I use Google as my spell check though, so it all works good. Opera's speeddial is better than both FF's rip and Chrome's rip, because its original. Stable? Both browsers are equally stable, Opera has never frozen or locked up on me, although FF has at start up...

You all say this, but the other day I ahd a look at Opera widget page, and there really is alot of neat stuff there. They have a proxy widget, a PR checker, hex color value checker (setup like photoshop), photo albums, calanders, games like snake, a whois checker, lyrics checker, and tons more.

I completly agree, leave it at that.

This concludes my debate with theezy.

Opera is fater than FF on my computer. Mind that is on my computer, but it also runs faster on my schools computer as well. Theyre new Dell's about a year old running Win XP. Stable, like I said, they both are. As for thousands of developers, this is true. Did any of you enter that contest Opera just had? They gave $5000 to the winning widget winner, $3000 to second place and $1000 to third. Maybe its not the amount of people working, but how good they are at what they do?

Not you cant, and until Opera's widgets really take off, I wont debate that. As for ad block, ive used FireFox's and to be frank, Opera's hidden content blocker is much better lol.

The end of my chat with Mr. Bond.

That is all for now. I will be here until Friday, and you may direct all questions or comments to my profile under Instant Messengers.

There is no facts to establish which browser is better. This is topic is based on personal opinions. And I am sure you will see that the overwhelming amount of people who support FF over Opera is some sort of proof that its better. -D-

Hey if you have the time to google words all day then more power too ya. I'd rather just have it correct me automatically.

As has opera for me before. Never had any problems with FF -😉-

Thats wonderful but FF has WAY more and goes above and beyond whatever Opera offers.

This concludes my debate with Ghost. ~wink~

Ok then, ill play along. Nothing better todo anyway -razz-

Facts? There are actually. Its not entirely opinions. You can look at the security, the crash reports submitted, the number of users, the prices (doesnt apply here) as well as survey results. Power in numbers can be good, but remember, it can be bad as well. The lets all follow this one guy who seems to know where hes going idea doesnt always pay off. Besides, wasnt FF originally on a Mac? That right there, that killed it for me.

I dont have time, I make time. Ive noticed since I started doing that im spelling less things wrong, so in directly its teaching me. Automatic is not a good thing in my mind. I like manual better...my first truck is a stick, I remove ever virus I can by hand, I like brooms over vaccums. I suppose that fear of a overlord lies somewhere in my mind, but I can see that that wouldnt apply to everyone.

Computers is what that comes down to. There is never going to be a program that cant crash, simply cause windows will find a way to screw it up -😉-

At this point, yes. However, take a second to consider how many of those things you actually use. Would you rather have 50 million cans of pop you hate, or 2 million cans of your favorite pop? There is a difference there, numbers do not always win -n-

This concludes my debate with Ghost.
Nah, this topic will hit over 9000 posts. Itll be stickied at some point, and itll break records as long as im here -razz-

Guess i'll shed some light on this topic,

I am a strong believer of what Travis has said, this comes down to opinion rather than fact. I've just opened Opera to compare the both browsers, and whilst I waited less than a second for FireFox to load...I waited 6 seconds for opera to load. This is not computer based as i'm using Vista with 3GB RAM .

One of the main things I really dislike in Opera is the way the screen tends to flash white when changing between pages on a forum. I've had this problem on Opera and Chrome, but never FireFox ~wink~

As far as appearence goes i've got to hand it to opera. I think the interfeace is a lot nicer than FireFox's. FF's interface makes you feel you're using some Windows application (although it's not made by windows), Opera on the other hand makes you feel quite upper classed ~lol~

Widgets / Add-Ons...you can't really compete with FireFox. I've just had a look around both of the brower's add-on pages and FireFox offers many more, and more exciting add-ons. One thing I do like in Opera is the the screen ruler...apart from that the rest look "okay", nothing special...nothing that really grabs my attention.

That'll do for now, i'll probably tack some more on the end later ~razz~

I guess it's more on opinion. Some people like Opera, some like Firefox. Majority of the people here like Firefox. I happen to like it too. ~cool~ First of all It never crashes on me, it is never slow, and is always reliable. I don't need to go out finding more browsers, I'll just stick with one reliable one. All I need is Firefox.

Ok, quick question for those of you that use FireFox, how many of have actually tried Opera for more than 5 minutes?

Download it and test it for a day, just 24 hours, no more no less. I have FireFox installed for testing coding, you can return the favor by just trying Opera.

http://opera.com

Just 24 hours, all I ask, and all youll need to switch.

I must be honest, Opera is the best browser I have ever used.

Being a firefox user for so long, now I changed to Opera I really like it. Some of the skins you can get on here are awesome. ~smile~

Never used Opera. So firefox. I have used Firefox for the past year and a half and its better than any other I used.

Firefox since it is more secure .. more customizable
I dont want to call you stupid, and I wont, ill bit my tounge. Did you NOT READ any of the other posts? FireFox is NOT more secure. Actually, theyre all equally secure to start with, but FF and IE are slower to release patches than Opera is. That IS a fact, and no one here can fight it. If you want to be secure, Opera is the better choice up to this point.

FF and Opera are the SAME when it comes to customizing. They both have this thing called "skins". If youre decent in photoshop you can make Opera look like default firefox and firefox look like default Opera without any issue at all. There is no difference here.

None of your points were valid, I doubt youve ever tried Opera. Dont say bad about it until you try it, otherwise you have no idea what your talking about and people will notice that.
