Today was my first day driving for Lyft. I completed 9 rides today. It was fun and exciting. I made a total of $78.25 (before tips). I drove a total of 71.63 miles today. I'm just testing it out and see if it's worth doing on the side. 🙂

Have you ever drove for Lyft or Uber?

If I refer someone, you get an extra $2.75/per trip.

I wouldn’t mind doing it but I live in the south so there is really no need where I live. Also the county I’m in is kind of sketchy, I wouldn’t want to get robbed or murdered. XD

I also live in the south. I do agree, some sketchy people hop in sometimes.

One of my friends at work does a ton of driving for Uber every weekend in Nashville, and he's making a ton of cash from it. It's his side hustle. Personally, the whole concept makes me really uncomfortable. There's no telling who you will pick up. There's an example of that in The Equalizer 2. 😛

You could also do something like DoorDash. I've been doing that, and it's not that bad.

What made you choose Lyft and not Uber?

@Gio I was looking into doing this. How's the money? Worth it?

It can be alright, they show you the guaranteed earnings for that delivery. You can also check the items right after accepting the order so if you decide you don't want to do it, you can cancel.

Over the weekend I done 10 rides and made $109.

I have heard Lyft has nicer passengers. honestly it’s due to uber requiring me to have a car inspection done and it will fail due to my 27% tint. Lyft does not require an inspection. I made $109 in 10 rides over the weekend. It’s pretty decent if you have a fuel efficient vehicle.

Always been something I've wondered about, see all the Uber drivers round here and I just cannot imagine them making that much money...sounds like a decent side hustle for you though!

I wasn't interested in doing it for the longest time (been signed up since 2015) because I didn't believe it was worth it, but just doing it sporadically isn't bad at all! At least it can keep my gas tank full without me paying for it!

I’m a very frequent Lyft & Uber rider, and here is my experience:
  • Lyft drivers are nicer, driver better, and have nicer cars
  • Lyft costs a couple dollars more base, plus there’s a tip expectation. I almost always tip at least a buck, unless the ride was unsafe or strongly unpleasant.
  • Uber is more generous with discounts and subscription programs.
  • Lyft is more generous with refunds
  • Both apps are similar in terms of usability. Lyft is better at showing a picture of the car color, make, and model.
  • There are more Uber drivers so they’re quicker to hail under circumstances where not many drivers will be online, or there’s a lot of traffic.
I much prefer Lyft as a company and service. I only use Uber when I have to, or when surge pricing makes them much, much cheaper.

You carry a piece with you?
It's against the rules of Lyft and Uber, I'm not saying I carry a gun but I'm also saying I'm not unprotected either. :smug:

I've driven for Uber on and off for the past two years and it's not bad. When I was living in Florida (Tampa), it was really easy to get rides and make some decent money. I'd also go online when I was in Orlando and around theme parks there because tourists not only use Uber a lot but tip really well too.

I don't do it too often because it does put a lot of mileage on my car and gas prices are so high right now that it makes it less worthwhile. It can be fun though and a decent side hustle if you don't mind being in a car that long.

If that is the case both companies should be more considerate of the safety of their drivers and more trusting.

Completed 3 more rides in 2.5hrs and made $43. Not too bad. Comes up to be $16.80/hr.
