Just yesterday (Monday) the Cardinals hired Jen Welter as an assistant coach.

The Cardinals hired Jen Welter as an assistant coaching intern for training camp and the preseason to work with inside linebackers. She is believed to be the first female coach of any kind in the NFL.

Welter, 37, has been making history throughout her career. In February, she became the first female coach in a men's professional football league when she was hired by the Texas Revolution of the Champions Indoor Football league to coach linebackers and special teams. The Revolution's general manager is Hall of Fame wide receiver Tim Brown. In February 2014, she became the first female to play a non-kicking position in a men's professional football league when she played running back and special teams for the Revolution.

Welter played professional football for more than 14 years as a linebacker, mostly with the Dallas Diamonds of the Women's Football Alliance. She helped lead them to four championships.

She will join linebackers coaches Bob Sanders, Larry Foote and recently hired Levon Kirkland.

So what are your thoughts on this? I honestly think it's really cool. I've been hearing a lot of mixed feelings and opinions from people but I, personally, think they're wrong. Some people have said that she shouldn't coach because she's a woman. Someone on Facebook had actually said "Why the h*ll would a NFL player want a woman telling how to play, like seriously.". I know for a fact that the reactions from players on the Cardinals are nothing but great. I think that since she did play LB in her past there's absolutely nothing wrong with her coaching. She knows what she's doing, so why not?

It's about darn time.

I see nothing wrong with this, and it's about time women break that barrier of working in the NFL. Go Cardinals!

Anyone complaining about this is better off ignored. Women have been coaching men's sports for years, just not at a professional level. It was bound to happen eventually, and it's great that it finally has. The door has been opened for many great woman coaches who probably wouldn't have been given a fair chance before.
