I recently became a first-time home buyer and it’s honestly been both exciting and overwhelming at the same time. There’s so much that goes into the process that you never really realize until you’re actually going through it yourself.

Is anyone else a recent first-time home buyer? If not, remembering back to when you were, what was something you wish you knew beforehand?

Congrats by the way 🙂 We've been owning our own home for 25 years now, I mean, we moved over 6 times, but ended up selling and buying in full 🙂 And so for most of my life, I have always been in my own home 🙂 Also, the home will be handed over to me in the future. Own nothing, no mortgage

Congratulations!

It's been over 35 years since I bought my first home. We always talked about replacing the carpeting, but never did, and looking back, I don't know why we didn't do that since we both were making very good money at the time. Instead, we decided to finish the basement and I guess that added value onto the home. It only had 1 bathroom though, which is why we chose to move after living there for 5 years or so.

I bought my house almost 4 years ago and I still feel like a new homeowner sometimes! There are always random things to fix and work on, but it's fun! I'd suggest doing a bunch of research on YouTube or online before you fix anything or buy anything so you don't waste money if you can!

I purchased a home with my ex when I was 17. It was very stressful for us because we had no guidance whatsoever. I also wasn’t allowed to be named on the mortgage because I was not 18. I remember looking through different mortgage companies and being completely overwhelmed. Once we got everything settled, then we were able to be excited about it. When we split, I just walked away from it and honestly, it saved me a ton of stress because now he rents it out.

I’m not sure if I’ll ever be able to purchase another home because the prices where my husband and I live are absolutely ridiculous….BUT if we have the opportunity, I’m thankful that I have that experience now with the process and won’t feel completely confused this go around.

It's hard nowadays to get a first-time home buyer or to become one for young people.. very hard to get even a deposit. What is this world turning into
