Fix the Garden?

So it’s coming to that time of year, spring is well underway for most of us and the garden that was neglected over winter…everything is starting to grow again and needs some attention.

When do you normally start ‘working’ on the garden after the winter?

By garden do you mean yard and landscape, or do you mean actual garden with vegetables and or flowers?

We have already started cleaning up the landscape! I removed the old mulch in the front by the house and got some dirt to build up so the water doesn't flow toward the house, and then added fresh mulch.

We decided last year to not do our vegetable garden again because I'm allergic to so many plants and veggies now 🙁 So, we added dirt to level out the space that's 20'x24' and then seeded it and it's finally showing baby grass. Yay.

I also trimmed the stalk plants...not sure of their name and cleaned up the grassy parts around them so it looks decent.

That's what I thought. I have relatives in the UK and they show pictures of their "garden" and I never know if they're referring to the entire back yard, or the pretty flowers they have growing. I need to go visit them sometime.

We wait until about July to do any trimming of the bushes in our landscape. That's so we don't have to prune them twice.

I tend to find over here once you give them the first trim/tidy up, that’s you until about October time, literally out dealing with it on an almost weekly basis!

One "benefit" of living in Arizona is that nothing really grows that well here, at least nothing that needs much maintenance besides the standard pruning, so we only need a trimming once every few months.

I always wondered about the weeds in AZ. I mean, I have weeds that grow all year round!!

Weeds grow pretty well all year here, as well, lol, but the fact that most houses have stones and dirt rather than actual yards makes it pretty easy to tame the weeds

I get garden envy of those with nicely manicured and landscaped lawns etc but then I think I’d literally have to dedicate my life to my garden to make it look that good!

Yeah, my mother was that type, always had a neat and tidy garden, it was most of her day!

In my country we usually start planting during the rainy seasons like this time we are currently on the planting of food crops because the rain season has already started out.

We do not have extreme winter and there is always some work that needs to be done in the garden to maitnain it.
