I always thought the flying car at the end of the movie Grease was really dumb. It's like they ruined a great ending.

LOL It was overkill wasn't it. I didn't like the fact the girl had to change herself for the guy. Why couldn't she just stay sweet little Sandy? lol

Been many many years since I've watch that, I can't remember any of it.

There is a reason why they did it apparently

The most bewildering part of Grease is when Sandy and Danny climb into a car that takes off and flies into the sunset. It's a weird shift into magical realism while the rest of the movie is a fairly standard teen comedy, but a closer look reveals that the flying car fits right into Grease. It's not the first fantasy moment, following the dream sequence "Beauty School Dropout" and the heightened realism of "Greased Lightnin'" and it was almost replicated in the originally planned ending to Grease 2. In addition, the shop teacher aiding the T-Birds sets up the twist, saying that, "if it were in any better condition, it would fly."

Still, while the flying car is a departure for Grease, it serves as a symbol that Danny and Sandy are quite literally flying into the sunset for their happy ending. Strengthening that interpretation is the popular fan theory that Grease doesn't represent accurate events, but is someone's nostalgic memory of their time at Rydell, explaining the dream-like quality in the film. In that case, flying a car into the sunset as a representation of Danny and Sandy's happy ending makes perfect sense for the movie.

I read that before and I am not buying it. It really ruined the ending for me and I've never been able to watch it without cringing.
I also felt like I heard a comedian make a joke before cause of the ending. It is super random out of nowhere though.

I remember the Grease ending very well as I have watched Grease so many times over that I remember so much of the movie. The ending with the flying car was really overkill for sure, could never understand why they ended the movie like that.

It's been almost 25 years since I have last seen Grease. Just a kid but then again as a kid at the time you think differently and kids see it as fun and cool. But I do not remember the end, I know it was WTF ending Xd but then again it didn't put people off and still, people love it. At least we can say that flying cars nowadays are true 😛

It did not fit with the film as it's not for that. Just see two love birds flying away into heaven
