I know this is quite popular with forums. I was wondering if you follow members or have them follow you? Whether it be on your forum or other forums. Do you check their posts often?
I don't "follow" members per se but I have clicked on their name to see what posts they have done.
My forum has social media pages but they are in their infancy. We probably follow 3 or 4 of our members with our social media pages currently. We’ll improve that as time goes on.
I had members following me and I followed a couple but even if you follow them you can and still have notifications turned off. I mean follow as in let us be friends or mates kind of followers. I end up seeing everything anyway with all members
I feel quite strongly this is one of a number of forum functions that fails to live up to its promise so I don't use it.
If I follow someone I want something obvious to happen if they have been active. As I understand it, with Xenforo you need to go digging around in menus to get the results from your follow and those results are preordained and not determined by preferences?
I feel the function would be far more useful if you could set a few preference for the kind of information you want to receive and that the information was better notified and less hidden.
I don't follow members. On forums, I mostly care about he content and not the members who create content. However, on social media, I follow content cretaors.
I know that feature is quite popular on most forums now but it's not something I tend to use a lot. Every so often I may get someone to follow me on a forum and I may follow them back but usually, I don't see that feature used as much as you would think it would get used. I guess something like the follow feature would be good if you had like a social media type forum but other than that, I don't see much use for it.
