My daughter is working on her follow up email after having a phone interview this morning. I told her she needed to get creative with it to make herself stand out among the competition. Who wants to read 50 follow up emails that all say the same thing practically word for word?

What have you written in a follow up that was clever?

I tried to Google some examples and got some bad advice on some blogs. A few people suggested saying "Hey ____" in the subject line. Well, I'm 52 and was taught you DO NOT say Hey if you want to remain professional. My teachers always said Hey is for Horses 😀

What would make your email stand out above the others?

I agree with you. I would keep it as professional as possible. Using "Hey" might be okay if you're talking to someone that's a good friend and they're okay with it. But I wouldn't use that in an e-mail that's suppose to be a follow up to an interview. That would more than likely not get a response and her e-mail might even get ignored.

I would take the time to discuss in the e-mail, things that she may not have gotten to go over in the interview. Things that would help make her stand out from the crowd and help her get noticed, more so than the competition. I wouldn't lie about anything, but just tell them why she is the perfect person for that job.
