Okay this is for anyone who uses a Linux distro.

Just chat about what distro you use and why 😀.

I personally dual boot and sometimes tri boot.

Currently I am dual booting fedora 11 and windows xp.

I have found fedora to be a top notch distro.

It has yum+package kit. It has alot of bleeding edge programs. It also has rpmfusion 😀.

All of that combined = the perfect distro for me 🙂.

Besides of Ubuntu I like to use Debian. Debian-GNU is a very fast updating OS, that's what I like on it. It contains many tools by default already and I can combine the features how I like to a system which suits my needs. I can practically easily build my own derivative from it.
The other distributions aren't that flexible I think.

I use Ubuntu 9.04 because it has a lot of pre-installed software like open office, fire fox, totem media player, pidgin, gimp, etc.

It also is pretty easy to install and uninstall new programs. It seems pretty fast and does not use a lot of resources.

Ya I use ubuntu 9.04 as well, also I made my own OS from Linux, I love Linux

Well I am now using OpenSuse11 I have fallen in love with its gui tools and its theme lmao..

On my netbook I use XP and Linux Mint XFCE CE ( Currently have network issures with it). It comes prepacked with all that you need, besides the network issue Im having. Its all good.

What type of network are you using and if its wireless what card?

I know how to fix most of those kind of issues lol..

Oh and since you are on a netbook you might want a netbook distro js.. lol

Moblin Os is a new one but a good one 🙂.

humm since it is in beta you might wanna report that problem 😉.

You could try cruncheee(crunchbang's version for a netbook).

If it is ethernet troubles with mint I wouldn't know how to fix :[.

Reason I used the XFCE version is for speed and because it comes with an option that lets you install it with windows and it does everything for you. ( Resizes, moves, formats, creates). So its really easy.

I am using Xubuntu on my old desktop computer to keep it as fast as possible as I will only use it for browsing if my laptop breaks down on me.

Yeah, ubuntu is supposed to be used as a resource, not as full time capacity OS.

I use Knoppix either when Windows is giving me trouble, and I have to reinstall everything, or if I have an urge to play Frozen Bubble or Enigma.

It has saved my butt a few times when my harddrive was circling the drain, and Windows wouldn't boot. (in safe mode or normally)

So what I'd do is pop in the Knoppix disk, plug my FAT-formatted 200gb hdd (which is in my USB enclosure) into my USB port, and then proceed to copy all of my documents, programs, and anything else I needed off of the failing hard drive, or if Windows had been corrupted, and onto the USB hdd.

Once I had everything I needed, I would be free to format the drive if Windows was corrupted, or replace the drive if it was failing, and I could do so without fear of losing my important files.

I use it live as a full time OS on my laptop, home server and some servers at work.
