Hi there, It's time I get the record straight and on the right track.

So, For The Record...

I've recently I've been applying for jobs on forums and the thing that has been said once I've sent the application in; is the following and it's time I set the record straight and defend myself. I joined the Designer group on phpBB Communities to fill in graphic requests. I'm not going to lie, because that would defeat the point of this topic. I was there for about a week/maybe two weeks and then I stated in the staff forum that I had to leave. I am human and I cannot be patrolling a forum 24/7 and so it happened that after I got the job time was not on my side and I had to leave. I had lot's of stuff to do and at the time, there were hardly any requests at all anyway.

I left and Richazey described my exit as a "disappointment". It's his opinion and if he feels that way then so be it but I couldn't commit to the job but only found out after I got it. Also another thing that has been said in the past is that I joined XCodeHQ(.com I think) and I will admit that I got the job as a designer, or coder - I forgot but still I got the job. I admit that there was no excuse for not being active once I got the job because I forgot about the forum. Yeah it sounds bad but keep reading. I wasn't once notified about my position there so I continued as if I didn't have a job to carry out there. My fault I forgot, not my fault that I didn't get notified.

Recently I applied for the FP Community Team, Review Team and Package Team. I've been a moderator on a few forums and I'm currently a moderator on RSTemple.com - A Runescape fansite owned by ChrisG2010, and Bad Bieber (another admin). Both are very reputable people and I assist them in patrolling the forum and I've been making posts on there and I've got a decent post count. I'm not new to moderation and I know my stuff when it comes to phpBB3. Both ChrisG2010 and Bad Bieber are on the Community Team, in actual fact ChrisG2010 got the job that I applied for. However he's a good guy and deserves it. I was unsuccessful in applying and didn't get the job. Richazey got the job and after a week he has left. I've not got anything against the guy, he knows his stuff, look at his forums however he left after about a week. I don't know why but that shows that everyone is the same and we don't all have a 24/7 availability for the forums we're on.

I was also unsuccessful on the Package Team. I've not got any actual experience in doing packages but I've done many exchanges with people and posted very high quality posts. As long as you have good grammar and spelling and you know how to post something. That is good enough package experience. Now the reason I needed to post this is that I also applied to be a Packager on Advertise Hotspot. I was contacted by the admin, Joel and told that previous experience on other forums isn't to good. So I need to defend myself and point out that just because of two forums, doesn't mean I'm going to get a job on a forum and then leave to never return.

People who deal with me wether it's regarding support, graphic requests or asking a question will know that I'm a kind person, I know my stuff and I can get the end job done as quick as I can. I have knowledge of my chosen field and I can be trusted. So that is why I needed to post this and get this record straight.

To mods: I'm not looking to start a flame war/start spam - I just need to let people know about these jobs and the history and please don't lock/delete it. I hope this is in the right section as well.

I'm looking for flaming and spam, just letting you know and I suppose you could say, saving my reputation here as well. Thanks for reading.

Sometimes it doesnt matter how many forums you've been staff on or what you've done in the past.. You just have to have that "it" factor in the eyes of whoever selecting the new staff member.

As for your reputation, you shouldn't be bothered. There will always be someone out there ready to spread rumors, stretch the truth about you or mislead others. Be above what other people say and your true colors will always shine through the mud-slinging.

Don't lie, you were notified and given enough time to reply or contact us, you didn't.
You haven't moved a finger since you became staff there.
Choose your words carefully and don't bash other peoples forums.

Thanks for the input Theezy :great:

Would you mind telling me how I was notified micro1000? Because I certainly don't remember any notifications telling me to come back.

We all get it when we just can't do the job hence my long inactive spell but you always come out of it after a while you just got to hold through that period.

Thanks, yeah I agree. It is really hard being active on forums all the time. Also if you're a member on many forums that can also add the extra difficulty of remembered where you are registered and your certain jobs there too.

You know, I have health problems, a part-time real life job, and I can't be on forums as much as I like either. It is a tough life, but really, you can't just step down every time something gets in the way. All you have to do is tell the admin/staff/whatever that you have some things going on and that you won't be at your computer for a while. People can be understanding about this, and most people are good at recognizing that staff can't be on the site 24/7. My forum is a perfect example of this: I'm not home as much as I'd like to be, I have health problems, and sometimes my schedule's so air tight that I am unable to squeeze in even an hour on my laptop. I feel blessed to have staff backing me up who understand what I am going through and are more than willing to sub for me should the need arise when I have to be away, whether it be an unexpected absence or a planned one. I don't let real life get in the way of my forum owning duties, and even if it does, that's no problem, because I can always make up the work some other time. For example, I'm going to Bible camp this summer. Say if I bump up my advert topics on July 4th, which is a Monday this year. I go to camp on the Tuesday, and come back on the Friday (which is what will be happening). Do you think my co-workers will be biting my head off for being away so long? Heck no. They understand that not all people can be on as much as they'd like to be. I was gonna say more but I'm drawing a blank now.

I think the point of this topic has been lost somewhere. I stated two jobs of which this concerns. Firstly, it was phpBBC in which I didn't have the time so I resigned, I didn't leave the site and didn't say anything, I let the staff know. Then at XCodeHQ I got a job and I forgot about the job I had there. I take responsibility for forgetting as that is my fault. I take the blame. But like I stated above unless micro1000 can prove me wrong, I don't remember a single time being notified that I had a job to do there.

I understand that for you Ashley, you might not have time for certain personal reasons but I'm not saying that it's not my fault I didn't have time, I'm just giving a valid reason as to what happened when I got these jobs.

I know you are a good worker. But, I'm not sure why Joel disapproved you they're killing for packagers right now. It has happened to me before that I forgot that I was staff on a forum but that means you really don't want to be staff on the forum, plain and simple. If you feel you don't want the job anymore you have all the right to quit no one's stopping you.

Cool story bro...

In reality, does this warrant a topic? I would have never known about your two 'jobs' before if it wasn't for this post. Now it seems like you find the need to make excuses to a large group of people who don't really care, unless you just want everyone to tell you you're doing a good job. Either way shouldn't this go in another section?

I have just read all posts here... And Dan I understand your issue you're having here. Rumours and gossip on the net are a serious thing to debate about. And can make things or decisions must harder to "happen" when those rumours or other stuff put you as a "person" in the negative.

You were also designer on "code it" mcstormify his forum. You left after 2 weeks or so I believe? I'm not sure.

Anyway I believe you deserve a chance to proof yourself of being able to commit yourself to the job you applied for on AH.

With that said proof all wrong who think of you as someone who quits early on a job.

Good luck Dan.

I've applied for many things I haven't gotten - alas, not on this site, but at the end of the day, the vast majority of people who apply for just one position are going to be disappointed. You learn with time that something like being a staff member on an online forum isn't that important in the grand scheme of things.

Reading this topic makes me wonder how some people on this forum are going to react when they have trouble finding actual jobs.

My sentiments exactly.

Unlike the real world, the internet is serious business 😉

I don't recall once getting an email telling me to go back to the site. Also @Jonathan, if I get turned down from a job for legitimate reasons then fine, I accept that but in this case, it's quite silly what is going on.

To boost Dan's rep. : Dan has done work for me in the past, all web designs. I couldn't be happier with the quality of the work and he was very friendly and was alway happy to help if I needed. Around a month ago Dan joined me at an upcoming site. Since the. He's risen up the Staff Ranks and now holds a management position. Why? Because he was everything that I was looking for and I know that he will do well.

Don't let a few bad "spots" ruin someones chances. Sure, I've had my fair share too but as a admin I'm always willing to give someone another chance.

Thanks a lot Ben! :great:

Just to sum this topic up though, I'm just making sure that if I ever apply for a job on a forum, and this information comes up - I need to make sure that people know what happened even though it might not be seen as important by some.
