Has anyone here ever made a dummy account and talked to themselves to gain activity to their forums?

If so how did it go?
Did you receive regular members during that time?

Have you ever been caught?

I have never done it, and I'm not sure if I would. I have friends who always help with activity.

There is always a way to get someone posting (friend, posting packages, etc)

I did it on a forum that I once had, but probably never again, because it felt weird talking to myself, that's for sure. You practically have to lie and simply make things up as you go along, and I didn't really like that.

Everyone has his own opinions, I guess. I just personally didn't like it, to be honest.

The only reason I've created dummy accounts has been to test permissions and stuff.

Creating accounts to boost activity could worm, but I think it's dishonest. Better off getting a posting exchange.

I never got caught though, so that was a plus. I think I may have confused my members eventually, though. I'm not good at making up things as I go along.

I've done it to test permissions. But never done it to post with. However, I really don't see anything wrong with it, if it helps to get your forums up and running. It's not easy to get a forum started and if you think this can help your forum, then go for it.

To start out a forum, yes. However, if people find out about it, your forum will see the concequences.

Its easy to get caught if your moderator tells anyone.
