Review By Ryan on Forum Adverts

Number Of Members: (8/10)
Your forum has a total of 42 members. Considering that your forum has been open for just 10 days, I think this is quite good; however, I have seen forums with more members as this stage. To improve, you just need to generally advertise your forum a little more. To start with, good places to advertise are generally promotion forums, like Forum Promotion itself. You will find a really good list of promotion forums on the internet here:

viewtopic.php?f=22&t=5786&st=0&sk=t&sd=a

In general, though, as I said, the number of members on your forum at this early stage is good.

Number Of Active Members: (10/10)
Out of your 42 members, just 1 of them has not yet made a post - which I feel is absolutely phenomenal. Obviously, though, I must consider the age of your forum and how many members you have, both amounts are relatively small as this stage so, as your forum grows, you are likely to get more non-posting members. For now, though, the number of active members is brilliant. Your task is now to try your best to maintain this.

Number Of Posts (Spam or Otherwise): (7/10)
Your forum has a total of 626 posts. Considering that you have 42 members, this is decent. I have not gone higher than a 7/10 on this score because your staff have made over 1/3 of these total posts which shows that you need to try to get your current members to post more. I have 2 ideas for you:

1) You send out a mass email to all of your current members, encouraging them to pop back and check how your forum is getting on.

2) You request a Forum Promotion Package. Packages cost very little and are a great way of boosting the post count on your forum. Not only does it boost the post count from the members that join as part of the package, but it will also give your current members a wider variety of topics to talk about and will encourage them to make more posts.

Appearance (First Impressions): (13/20)
At first glance, the appearance of your forum isn’t bad, but it just seems to lack that special attractiveness that will make members want to join. This is simply because the template that you picked is a little too popular and I see those kind of templates everywhere these days. With this, I am not saying that the template doesn’t look very nice because it does look nice, it is just simply to ordinary and popular, you should get a new template - maybe one that is a little different and will make your forum unique from other Promotion Forums. I’d now like to comment on your banner - it is really well designed, I love the reflection effect and it also fits in very nicely indeed with the current template, but I think that it is far too large. When viewing your forum, it takes up around ¼ of the page, forcing you to scroll down to view the actual forums. You need to really consider making it smaller so that members can actually see the majority of the ‘body’ on your forum without putting extra effort in scrolling down the page. Overall, though, I think that the appearance is better than average.

Layout: (16/20)
I think that the layout on your forum is generally good, with all of your ‘Promotion’ sections nicely set up and ordered neatly; however, I do think that you could do with adding more ‘Off-Topic’ sections. ‘Off Topic’ is an absolutely massive category to have just 1 forum for and, if you aren’t careful and it is starting to go this way already, the majority of your posts will be in that section and that will look distracting an quite off-putting. You could maybe separate that forum into sections such as ‘Sports, Entertainment, Forum Games, Music, Technology and General Chat’ - it will make your forum look bigger and better.
On the whole, your layout is good.

Moderation: (4/10)
Your forum has 5 members of staff at the moment. And, although your forum is nicely moderated, this is too many. An young, inexperienced forum with 42 members doesn’t really need to have 5 staff members. A forum that I used to use regularly had over 200,000 posts and over 8000 members and that didn’t even make it over the 5 staff members mark. I think that you should consider getting rid of some of your less active staff members.

Activity: (6/10)
Looking at your forums, I see that many of them are crowded with posts and others are rarely used at all - you need to change this. You should create some sort of competition with a decent prize of some sort for the winner, trying to get members using the less-popular sections on your forum (such as Debates, SEO, Graphics and Exchanges). I see that your graphics section isn’t very popular, so you could create a graphics competition, encouraging your members to start making their own graphics so that the Graphics section on your forum will be more popular.

Spelling and Grammar: (4/10).
I’ve had a peek through some of the posts made by all of your staff members to check their spelling and grammar. Out of your 5 staff members, I have found that 2 of them do not always use good English grammar, they are Joseph and Sbfc93. I recommend that you get these 2 members to sort this problem out as it can put people off when they are viewing your forum due it making your forum look unprofessional (I fit in this category, too).

Overall Mark (Out Of 100): (63/100)
I have taken 6 marks off of your total because I have noticed a couple of problems that I have had in general when checking out your forum to review.

1) It has taken me extra time to produce this review due to the ‘Cannot find server’ error coming up a lot of the time.

2) Whenever I click the refresh button whilst on your site, it just takes me to the homepage of your forum which is really annoying - I am sure that a lot of other members will feel that same.

Some points i want to point out

1) I have requested packages.
2) Well the real domain is harder to remember. its http://forumadverts.net46.net
3) I am sbfc93, lol. I don't see a problem with my grammar/spelling.
4) In response to the 5 staff member thing. They are not mods, they are for different jobs. (2 reviewers, 2 mods, 1 package squad (4 different people) and me.

5) The banner is 1000 x 200. I can't reduce the size of it sorry.
6) I admit it doesn't look that great, i might get a trushkin skin.
7) Cannot find server= free hosting?

Cash received. Thanks.

1) I have requested packages.

Okay, that's great. I hope it works out well for you 🙂

2) Well the real domain is harder to remember. its http://forumadverts.net46.net

All that you need to do to sort out the domain is just go to your domain setting and turn 'Cloaking' off. That way the domain will work and will redirect to your forum.

3) I am sbfc93, lol. I don't see a problem with my grammar/spelling.

Looking again at your grammar and spelling, I will say that I have seen people with worse but alot of your posts miss out basic punctuation (Start sentences with a capital letter, end with a full stop, names begin with a capital letter etc).

4) In response to the 5 staff member thing. They are not mods, they are for different jobs. (2 reviewers, 2 mods, 1 package squad (4 different people) and me.

Okay, but I think, for now, you only need yourself, 1 reviewer and 1 package member (both of those could be mods as well).

5) The banner is 1000 x 200. I can't reduce the size of it sorry.

That isn't one of the major things that needs to be sorted on your forum anyway - it is still a very nice banner apart from the size.

6) I admit it doesn't look that great, i might get a trushkin skin.

Yeah, that would look good. You could test a few different designs and see which would look best for your forum.

7) Cannot find server= free hosting?

I'm not sure. It may be the free hosting or maybe the domain? It wasn't my internet connection I dont think because other sites such as Forum Promotion were working fine at the time.

where does it say that on the domain settings, the phpBB acp or on the co.cc account?

I dont usually use .co.cc as my free domain but I would presume that it would be in your .co.cc account.

I recommend that you get a .co.nr domain, they are easier to use but you have to place a link back to them.

Activated? Usually with .co.nr you get the domain instantly.

I'm not sure then, sorry.

Anyway, thanks for getting a review 😀

I think having 5 members of staff for an promotional forum isn't bad at all, your opinion is just that and for trying to make someone gt ride of their staff or some of their staff is wrong, you should rethink what you say to people...

For a normal promotion forum, it is fine - but this forum is very new and doesn't need so many staff at such an early stage.

yes it does for all the different jobs (mod, package, graphics, review)
