Hey?
I know on some forums when someone gets banned it shows publicity in the thread view, do you all think forums should show the ban status or should that be a staff only thing?

I personally think it humiliates the individual but what does everyone else think?

@Fait I have to agree with you. No matter what the cause for the ban was, I don't believe in public humiliation. It can tarnish a reputation for the rest of their life. The person may have had things going on & was taking it out on others.
@Ozzy47 Agree too! A Staff only thing so they can have the heads up if the person tries to come back. & for me, depending on why they were banned, they could be put on probation.

IPB offers both, show or not to show

Could not agree more!

Xenforo let’s you do it via groups or template code with what you want

I had to ban an former friend because he went on my website and spammed it, We was friends for 6 years so there’s history there plus his a streamer but I guess I keep all bans staff only.

It's a staff only thing on my forum. As mentioned, no need to embarrass a member publicly. Also, on my forum, once they've been banned for over 30 days, they are purged from the system.

Well, ban accounts can be seen by everyone however the warnings and why they are ban are keep to staff only and staff can see that 🙂 and staff can only see their emails and whatnot. and so the rest of the members see there account name and that's all

I guess it varies site by site and forum by forum haha

Like even big sites like Twitter makes suspended accounts public while Facebook makes it private.

An easy way to do this would be to make a new user group, and have it named like “suspended”. Change all of their permissions via that user group but keep it having the appearance of the normal user group. Then staff can see, but others have no idea.

On Xenforo banned users have their names crossed out but only staff can see it but it’s definitely a great idea

Twitter calls their banned suspended for some reason.

If someone gets banned. Their friends and acquaintances need to know why. So I think a status with a reason on it is justifiable.
