Forum/Blog Spotlight

From time to time we will be spotlighting a forum or blog in order to allow the FP community to be introduced to new sites or get reacquainted with existing sites.
Our Current Spotlight is a forum owned by @Ash

We invite members to visit Discussion Hub and sign up as a member if you feel it's a good fit for you.
In this thread take the opportunity to ask Ash questions about his site or make comments on it.

@Ash please tell us what prompted you to start Discussion Hub and how what is something unique to this forum that you haven't had in previous forums?

Thanks for being a part of Forum Promotion!

Hello everyone and thank you for putting Discussion Hub in the spotlight this time. I've been away from the webmaster world for a little while and with the extra time thanks to Coronavirus, I thought that this was the perfect time to return to the magic world of forums. Discussion Hub was actually a forum I owned quite a while back and the idea was to bring it back from the bottom up, especially as it was my most successful forum.

Our focus isn't too much to be completely unique but to bring back some of the things that used to be quite popular with forums years ago. Things like glowing usernames with little icons next to them, a shop with little things to display on your profile and customise your posts with and upgradable groups.

That doesn't mean we don't have some little unique features you might not have seen before. We have a Spotify integration so our users can show off their favourite music on their posts. Our sidebar shows off music that is being played right now by our members as well. We also have an Adult Café so that you really can discuss everything without being limited.

We will be officially launching tomorrow so keep an eye out for our launch threads. And keep another eye on our News & Updates forum as we will be hosting a special contest very soon with some great prizes 😉

If you guys have any questions or feedback, both @Hungry Ego and I would love to hear it 🙂

How does the Spotify integration work?

How does the Spotify integration work?
It is pretty easy actually. Users can simply connect their Spotify account to their Discussion Hub account (https://discussionhub.io/account/connected-accounts/) by logging in to Spotify. And that's about it. Whenever you listen to music on Spotify, there will be a little button on your posts and profile showcasing what you are listening to right now for others to see.

How do you plan to utilize the COVID19 imposed lockdown to up the ante?
Well, it seems that the lockdowns around the world are being eased back so it might be a bit too later to take advantage of it. But we will be hosting some special contest over the next few weeks to try and encourage some new users to join.

How does the Spotify integration work?
The spotify integration is pretty neat. It started with trying to have background music on a user's profile page but that proved to be more hassle than it was worth. Spotify integration was plan B and so far so good!

We love answering your questions guys. Send us more 😉

I see you've implemented a Credit system for the forum. What's your plan moving forward to prevent inflation of that currency?

Select users have access to the bank (sapphire, Diamond, and staff only) with a nominal interest rate of 0.5%.
As well earning credits isn’t super quick, it requires time and activity. We view credits as a way of thanking our members for supporting our site, and will be providing services that our members value and want to take advantage of through the shop.

Here is something I am really curious about.

The 'Whats New' feature is supposed to be put in a location where it captures the eye of a visitor (Like how FP does it). But I understand that DH has preffered to put an icon that redirects to the 'whats new' section which would essentially mean one more click for the user.

Why such a decesion?

Sounds like a question for @Ash ...

To add to what @Hungry Ego mentioned, we have a shop with a lot of different items that can be bought with the currency. As a general discussion forum, we don't want the coins to be viewed as being extremely valuable and something that needs to be hoarded. Our users will hopefully enjoy the items we have in the shop and spend their currency buying things like temporary username styles, membership groups etc.

I'm not sure what you mean exactly since it's the exact same as FP. Could you share a screenshot?
The What's New link is in the menu (same as FP)

What things do you try during the lull moments to boost forum activity?

We are constantly posting discussion stimulating threads and content to try and foster an engaging and fluid discussion each day. As with any site there are lulls during the week, but we are pleased to see that we have a good core group of members checking in daily and most times they leave a few posts behind, so every little bit counts!

we have been focusing heavily on being a personalized experience for everyone and are quite pleased with where we have come over the past month! We strive to be “different” and not just a regular forum community. We do have some more stuff in the works that we hopefully will be launching soon to further making Discussion Hub a destination for all users alike!

I'm going to archive this now and we'll have a new spotlight up soon!
