Forum/Blog Spotlight
Yaketys General Discussion Forum

From time to time we will be spotlighting a forum or blog in order to allow the FP community to be introduced to new sites or get reacquainted with existing sites.
Our Current Spotlight is owned by a long time member of forum promotion, @Jazzy!

We invite members to visit Yaketys and get and start talking! 🙂
In this thread take the opportunity to ask @Jazzy questions about their site or make comments on it!

1st Question(s)!
How did you get started with Yakety's?

Thanks for being a part of Forum Promotion!

@Jazzy, do you ever plan on doing more with the Groups add-on? I know you have a politics group and an adult group. We still haven’t figured out exactly what we want to do with that here at FP.

I think groups usually detract a bit from the main focus of a community, but Yaketys have implemented it in a way that is fitting and useful.

How did you get started with Yakety's?
Without any warning to any of the Wober members (myself included) we logged on one day and saw a notice that Wober was closing and we all needed to find another forum. I was stripped of my Admin status and sent several emails to Joe asking him why he was closing Wober. I finally got a reply from him that was hurtful not only to myself but to all the members as well. I decided not to share that email with anyone. The only thing I will share was the last sentence in that email: "You get to look like the innocent one. Sit back and enjoy the fireworks."

A member didn't want to see all of us scattered and lose touch with each other. He offered me a chance to create a forum where all Wober refugees could come and be together. Hence, Yakety's was created. Joe's last sentence mentioning fireworks gave me the inspiration to open Yakety's on the fourth of July. A new beginning and a new home for all of us emerged.

This July 4th will be our 5 year anniversary. 🙂

We currently have no plans on adding any more Group Forums. If any member suggested a new one, we would definitely consider the suggestion and ask members their input before implementing it.

Oh wow, I had forgotton about Wober. That is a blast from the past. That is how I found Yaketys too! 🙂

What's your vision for Yaketys in the next year?
To be honest, my vision is to just keep Yaketys afloat. Very difficult to keep a forum going now-a-days with all the competition from other social media sites.
Any new changes coming down the pipeline?
We will continue to update to the newest XenForo software. With all the negativity going on in the world, I would like to add a forum for Uplifting News. If anyone reading this has any suggestions on what else we could do to improve, I would appreciate your input.

Who came up with the name?
I first came up with the name Yak ( (slang, intransitive) To talk, particularly informally but persistently; to chatter or prattle) but that sounded blah to me. All of a sudden the word Yaketys came to me. The rest is history 🙂

I thought it referred to the song!

How did you get started with Yakety's?
I was a member at Wober with @Jazzy. When we found out that forum was unexpectedly closing, I followed Jazzy to her new home as did many of the members. Yaketys is a great informative forum. It has gotten me through some really tough times. If you join, you won't be sorry!

I also came from Wober as well. I recall remembering the day that all went down and genuinely thought Wober was hacked until that guy who ran it whose name I apparently decided wasn't worth remembering cleared it up and made sure everyone knew what kind of loser he was in the end. I am glad things worked out in the end for everyone and didn't even noticed it has been five years since they opened their doors.Well on the bright side, he gave Yaketys one heck of an origin story that most boards aren't so fortunate to have.

Theezy was always a dodgy character. Even back before Wober and he had his rival promotion forum to FP. A lot of drama. Travis rings a bell.

What I love about Yaketys is the content. A lot of general forums tend to have too many random pointless topics. Yes Yaketys has the general discussion sub forum, but the content and discussions in the other boards are worth investing into.

My question would be; have you ever met some of the people on your forum? I know some of the members you would have known for about 10 years. Even if you have spoken to them on webcam? Would you consider a zoom or other virtual meet, much like FP organises?
