I don't know if this fits the topic but I like to hold a trivia contest thing with twenty random questions I choose and whoever wins gets two moderator spots for forums of their choice, although it can get a bit boisterous and competitive at times. -happy-
If our host allowed it, yes we would have. We have a primitive version that only the Admins and mods can see/edit, and they gain or lose for being helpful (or being a douche for negatives) in the community.
I have forum cash on my forum, and a virtual shop where people can buy forum edits/add-ons for forum cash. I don't think it's very good and I don't think it gives much incentive to post more. Nobody really buys anything from the forum shop...
I'm going to implement a system for this. The thing is though, they can actually earn real-life stuff though and can obtain them in several different methods aside from just posting. Some of the virtual stuff we offer though are things like custom member rooms, additional threads for a specific joinable group on the site (we limit the joinable group threads to 12), pinning a thread for someone for a period of time, and making annoucements for someone.
There's plenty of applications you can use with the point systems beyond just posting. It can actually get you paid too. We have games and videos that would capture a member's interest so points can definitely be used intelligently.
It does help posting quite a bit as it can cause a bit of competition to get the most most between users but also if users can exchange it for other things then it does encourage people to post in order to get cash to exchange for other things.
