Forum Games - your opinion?

It is something that people can either love, or hate. What's your opinion on them? Do they help with a forum's activity or, just a blatant inconvenience for half the community involved?

Well for me, I just ignore them because in my honest opinion, posts made in forum games are not "proper" posts if they're just a short meaningless line of something or a two-integer number. What's worse is that they're usually added to one's overall post count and that encouraged some people to only post there just to raise it up. That was a major problem in one forum I was at years ago until the staff there had disabled post counts for it and, months later, scrapped it completely, and rightly so.

Just about every website that I'm an member of has forum fun boards for members to spam allot of content. It's fun to do when you are bored or what to take an break away from doing other things. I have to say I stopped posting on FP fun boards since the new change, meaning no FP$. Find that now it's pointless.

I sometimes play forum games but when I play them someone else posts and it's almost like a task to get rid of them from my New Posts page 😛

I don't mind them, I think they build the community up if it is more than just counting games - unless there is a real goal. I think it is a good way to be apart of something.

I dislike when that's basically all people do is count or only go in that area for that and then they don't contribute any where else.

Completely agree with you. That just defeats the purpose of what a forum is actually for in the first place.

The problem with forum games is after a while you start noticing that every forum has the same exact games and it gets boring. I really don't get what the appeal is in counting "games" as I hardly see it as a game at all. It takes no skill or thought to play whatsoever and is just an excuse to rack up post count for the board which gains post count on every post even if it is set to not increment post count for users.

This forum in particular should do itself a favor and get rid of all but one of their counting games as it has been allowed to go too far as all the counting games simply pushes everything else off of the front page and gives no room for someone who might actually want to play a game which requires thought and perhaps even some sort of skill to play.

They're a waste of time. They can be fun for a bit, but my attraction to them has long since died. You can build community and arguably a better community by discussing and getting to know each other instead of counting or going through the alphabet.

Assuming I were to make a forum again, I doubt I'd even have a games section. It's a false impression of activity and content, and a waste of time for all involved.

I like them, we have various on our site. For us it's a great way to get to know each other unobtrusively (they're placed separate from other forum areas) or without major commitment. Like, one game is What's your favorite... You just ask a random question "What's your favorite type of sandwhich" with no obligation to answer.

However, I'm not upset or something if a forum doesn't have them, or if threads die. Interest for them tends to wax and wane.

I was interested in them when I was like 11 because it upped my post count lol
