Hey /fp/

It seems lately that people have tried to shun my forum board. They do this either because it has the word 'gay' in it or because they find it 'inappropriate" because of said forums and subjects.

Here's what I've said on one forum.
'm allowed to advertise my forum. We don't 'FORCE' people to talk about their sexuality if they so not choose to. We have general areas that have to do with lifestyle, general chat, forum games, etc..

So you cannot say every forum is about "Talk about your sex life here!!"

It's mainly both a general discussion forum added with topics and forums for people who have either came out or need advice about many things.

What is innaporiate about a forum like this? Is there anything on there with porn? No. Is there anything illegal? No.

Is there anything forcing members to discuss about being gay, lesbian, bisexual? No.

The word 'gay' maybe used as a slang word but we do NOT mean gay in that slang-like term.
If you also have nothing nice to say about someones forum than you shouldn't say anything at all imo. I do however wish for you to leave any feedback for this forum if you so wish to do so.

The forum will remain anon for the time being.

The forum can be found on FP http://forumpromotion.net/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=49776&p=508448#p508448

I dont know about you being shunned but you cant please everyone and there will always be someone with nothing better to do than critisize the forum.

stick with it and you will get members who want to talk about things and not be offended by others talking about their personal lives.

Agreed, there is a niche or a genre for every subject on the net, if you provide a place for people to talk about their sexuality it is no bad thing......now you use the word "gay", I understand that some folk are against this due to religion or simply because of homophobia, in some parts of the word it is an insult to be called gay, to the best of my knowledge in the UK we say gay(m) and lesbian(f). My cousin is "gay" and he doesn't mind being called it? People who have an issue shouldn't be on your site anyway so just concentrate on the ones that want to get the help, advice or just chat 😉

Yep, my plans exactly. I figured as such it'd be best to not 'flame' them or troll them. I'd rather be the better person on the forum than the 'person who advertised a forum and got banned' lol

You see websites like gaycommunity.com or w/e and they don't get talked against. That's why I just made it LGBT Forums in the forum name

Running a forum for gays and lesbians will be frowned upon by those who aren't open minded / against that lifestyle.
Don't let it get you down though, people who are open minded won't pay any attention to those "haters."

You are clearly targeting the wrong audience, out of the millions of potential users. Just ignore those single-minded people and move on to another place where they are more willing and open to your forum and goals. 🙂

Yeah I agree, like I got no problem affiliating with sites centred around gays, long as they're not adult forums. {No more room for affiliates right now though ^_^ } I think the problem is you're just advertising it in the wrong circles. Sadly....very sadly there are still a lot of closed minded backwards people out there who get hung up on something that is just really stupid to make a big deal about...I mean who really cares...It does bother me that people see 'gay' they think it's got to be porn or something, I don't get that.

It's advertised here and other sites like this one. I never got shunned for it on any of those besides one

Some people can be ignorant about things like that, also did you happen to hear that on promotion-source when it was still open?

I have had a similar experience with this simply because in the list of A-Z topics I cover on my forum, one of them happens to be Sex. I wouldn't say that it is so much about the word gay alone, rather than it being about sex and sexuality. Some people equate sex with porn in spite of the fact that sex seems to be in everything nowadays. They don't stop to think that perhaps these subjects are discussed in the same manner as everything else.

I have had to dumb it down, that there is no porn on my forum. Do we discuss sex, yes, do we go into explicit detail no. We can't because we are bound by the TOS and COPPA. But that did not stop these idiots from assuming that there is porn on my forum, much like, it won't stop them from assuming the same about yours. Anything you say about your forum to these people, will be taken with a grain of salt, and if anyone should say anything in defense of your forum will likely be met with duplicate account accusations.

Your best bet is to stick to advertising at forums whose staff and members have an IQ greater than that of a door knob. That is what I did. Sure, I'll have the occasional idiot who assumes that my site is a porn site, or a Twilight site, DESPITE the advertisement or anything else saying otherwise, but that just means that my forum is better off without these people. I don't fret over what these people think, the only thing I care about is what my members think.

Nope, just on these kiddie forums.

Well, I was the first person to say something to that googlebrain ;D
That guy suggested I should join is gaming forum, I think I'll make sure to put the forum link in my sig just to spite him XD ;D
I think the best to do is to be cautious on where to advertise as well, like Advertise It. I think they would do the same thing because it's run by 4 year olds.

As for the word gay, I may have mentioned it. But I don't really like that word myself, these days it's pretty much an insult. Because kids use it instead of the word stupid (Even my sister says it, and then I yell at her for saying that.)
That's why I prefer homosexual or my own word Curved.

Well I hate people who say a forum is shunned because people on FP dislike it, when FP is not even a percent of the internet population, that grinds my gears. However, this is not the case so I still like you 🙂

People are People. That's my answer, and I think it is smarter than anything posted to this topic yet.

It's not the people on this forum, another forum with a similar name.

This is Forum Promotion, the forum that the incident occurred was on a forum called Forum Promo.

I would recommend just ignoring the people who are shunning your forum. They're clearly doing so because they're homophobes or prudes; do you really want people like those in your community anyway?

My advice to you is this.

This is a big debate every where in the world right now. You've come into a world that most people do frown upon. You're going to put up with a lot of crap, and people will come onto your site to try and ruin it. Just remember, it's something you believe in and just ignore people. There's always the possibility of getting stupid feedback. I wouldn't call it shunning though.

Well, that's all I could think of really. It's not like it is all about that either. There's other sections for people who don't even wanna talk about it.
