Hello. This is a question for all those administrating that created a MyBB forum hosting. Out of curiosity, how much disk space and bandwidth do I need to create a MyBB forum host.

You really shouldn't have over a 1GB or2. FP has under a gigabyte of diskspace, the last time it was mentioned, so really, 1GB should be plenty.

Oh, misread it. It would depend, but I can be certain of an answer.

You only use one set of files - it's the database that really counts.

None of my forums, regardless of software, went over 100MB (except I had a vBulletin forum which went over, but that was more because I went overkill on plugins).

You should also consult your host to see if they'd allow this.

He means a forum hosting company, like SiteFrost, Proboards, FreeForums.org, Forumotion etc.

It depends on how many people you expect to use it. For example, to really get started in hosting forums for people, you need to pay for your own server. Possibly a dedicated server to help handle the load of traffic and such. Next you need to look at the space sizes, and how much bandwidth each will give you.

A 360 Gig hard drive on a server is plenty to start out with, since you wouldn't have allot of people signing up for forums, and making a billion posts. For the bandwidth, probably around a Terabyte would be good to start out with.

Also, if you are seriously looking to start your own forum hosting, you need to figure out how to raise money for the costs of running it, otherwise you will be paying yearly from your pocket to pay for the server and bandwidth.

He knows, but it is true that most forum hosts run off of the same installation.

I would not recommend creating a forum host unless you have a unique twist on the industry. You are not doing admins a favor by providing a dumbed-down MyBB that they would just install themselves on a free host. If you wanted to help people, a clear step by step guide to making a website would be a better use of their and your times.

I'd say start off with 2GB space (remember attachments) and 10GB transfer. From there you can move up.
