Have any of you ever tried to start your own forum hosting service?

Was it successful in the end?

Why or why not?

Many years ago I ran servers for gaming clans along with comms options and forums for those that wanted it. Overall it was successful but the forum side was a pain because the software we chose to use was extremely high maintenance. In retrospect I would have used SMF or something similar, not because it's open-source but because it's proved to be more secure and it just works.

Nope. I don't know that I would be able to do something like that. There are a lot of different options out there anyway.

IPB offers Forum hosting that you can do from your end and yet you need a server that's about to deal with it.

I wouldn't have the time nor the money to try making a forum hosting site. Nowdays it isn't worth it IMO because you've got established forum hosts such as Proboards, Forumotion, Jcink, etc that have been around for decades. I did see a XMB forum host about a year or two ago but it already shut down.

I briefly had MultiphpBB.com at one point in time. It was using a custom phpBB forum hosting script made by Brad Veryard way back then. Was a pretty cool project but I wasn’t in the proper position to run it.

WHUK is the finest hosting service because, in my opinion, they value the needs of their customers.
Support is critical in the hosting industry since it helps consumers to solve issues at any moment.
Customers rated them 4.8 out of 5 for excellent 24/7/365 support and 99.95 % uptime.
Their administrative and technical teams have always been available to support us with anything we've requested and to ensure a smooth move to their server.

a very long time ago when it was popular before social media, back when it was using a phpbb hosting system or i remember the old invision power free multi forums before they went paid license.

i find hosting a multiforum hosting application very interesting but they can also keeep you on your toes from what i can remember.

This is the same here. I don't have the money to pay for my own forum much less a forum hosting company. There are plenty of options out there, like you mentioned. You'd have to be able to create something unique that others weren't able to do or be able to do something better.
