With my forum, we talked about doing a forum meet up at a local sci fi convention (which is about 100 miles from my home). Many of our members are very much into sci fi and it would be a great place to socialize. Just wondering if anyone else had considered this type of forum member meet up where everyone could get to know each other (in a group) offline, maybe at a convention or some other shared interest location?

I have no interest in meeting people I chat with on forums to be honest. I think it would be awkward and uncomfortable. Lots of people use forums as an escape from the real world.

I know a lot of sites do this. I, personally, am not interested because I like to keep RL and internet separate. However, that does not mean that it is a bad idea.

Just . . . be safe. Keep your forum members safe, especially if you have minors.

I can agree that it would be awkward as hellck.

Today we could have a Skype of Google Hangout meetup, everyone stays home and in the comfort of their own computer. That would probably still be rather awkward though. 😵

I would personally like to meet up with some of my forum friends who I've known for a while. It would be awkward at first, but I think we'd have a blast! Going shopping or just some sightseeing would be ideal to break the ice.

I haven't seen this done yet besides on very large forums (FlyerTalk for example). I don't think it would be fun or work well if you only had a small forum with not a lot of active members. Different time zones, locations, and even countries would be difficult too without leaving people out.

I've never actually set something like that up. That being said, my forum host does an annual meetup and I've always wanted to go. But, flying across the country is expensive-not to mention the hotels, food, and car service-so I've never been able to go.

A forum I am a member of does this, they recently met up in NEtherlands. I personally would love to do it as I would love to meet the people I am with daily.

I would find it rather awkward. A lot of people you like to talk to online but not want to meet in real life. I've never seen it happen before though

Not interested. Some members are nice people and have great ideas. That just isn't enough to go out and meet them in real life. Some members I'm glad I won't be meeting if ever.
