Forum Pet Peeves?

What are some of the things you hate most about forums or their admins?

Something I can't stand, someone trying to cash in on another forum's success by making a completely similar forum to theirs, even right down to the name.....example would be this forum, and one i just got an email about:

Notice something familiar about this URL? I won't say who owns this forum, but point being.....I find it really insulting that someone would basically try to steal another's forum just by adding a dash between the words.....So, what are some of your pet peeves that forum administrators or other staff do? (Also, sorry if this is a topic already!)

I do agree with you on what you said although that domain is a nice buy.

Hmm.. For me it's a lot of things. One major one is admins who ban people for simple mistakes and not for things that affect the community.

Another is bad grammar/punctuation in forum titles and descriptions. That I hate, so much. It really bothers me. Makes me think, why bother making a forum if you aren't even willing to write things out correctly.

I got the email you did. I agree with you. I hate people that try steal something that another person worked so hard on.

I hate when mods or admins ban people for the stupidest reason. I was on a forum where a mod banned me because we were having a discussion on Final Fantasy and we had a disagreement on what the best game in the series was, so he banned me.

I don't think that's a valid reason to ban someone.

I hate forums where the staff abuse their power. Seeing this ban would be a perfect example.

Exactly. Some people tYP3 LYK DIS. It annoys me. And the fact that Admins & Mods ban members them for no reason.

Another one is when they use a cracked CAPTCHA and do nothing about it. And spam the place like crazy! There are so many pet peeves! I don't know where to begin.

No they wouldn't, it'd be near-impossible to claim the trademark upon Forum OR Promotion, and if they attempted to sue it'd be easy for them to counter-sue and win.

I hate it when I join a forum and the members completely ignore my introduction post; it just seems rude and like no one cares that they have a new member.

I don't like it when the rules are written like it's 100 A.D

I find it so annoying, it's like "could you please speak english of this century??"

I hate invisible rules, these are rules that are not listed in the forum rules... but you get in trouble for doing such an action.
For example, one time I got in trouble for having a link in my signature, when it said nothing about that in the rules.
Another time, I got in trouble for grave digging when it said nothing about that in the rules....
These rules were not in the board rules, but apparently they were rules...
It's almost a trap or something.

I also hate it when you can't post in old topics, also known as "Necro Posting" or "Grave Digging".
It drives me nuts because I like to make as many posts as I can on a forum; it really limits me as I am not going to make 100 billion new topics. I'll just look like a spammer
Plus, having 50 topics all about the same thing is ridiculous and just clutters up everything.

This, plus when forums have huge amounts of rules to where it's come down to their image, what you do outside of the forum, etc.

Also, forums that purge their posts to "make room" and "avoid intimidating new members" are run by idiots.

They don't allow signature links for active members or ban you for having a signature link because they see your a competitor, and they don't PM you a warning first. That's my pet peeve with forum owners.

I don't like sites that are too strict in regards to the rules and put too many limits on new accounts. Yes I know some people probably spammed your site before, but don't punish innocent members because of it.

I also don't like sites where the staff don't post or do anything to get activity going. Why should I join and help out your site if you don't even visit and post content there yourself?

One of my biggest forum pet peeves is actually seeing a new forum protraying that they are "the number one forum for x and y" or "we will bring tons of users to your fourm" and the thing is, they have around 12 members and a couple hundred posts...really now?
