However, Forum Promotion 3.1 will be much more than just a software update...
With our update to 3.1.3, we will also be rolling out a new theme. We are currently in the stages of working with our designer and watching the stages of our theme being built (it looks awesome so far!) Over the next few weeks, we'll be teasing you with small bits of our new style. I've personally seen this designer's portfolio and past work, and I'm excited for what he's going to bring to the community!
With a new theme, we want to also bring an improved atmosphere for discussion, support, and collaboration for all webmasters, new or experienced. Over the next month, you'll see new services and opportunities directly related to helping you become a better webmaster, as well as the chance to let you help others!
Since phpbb 3.1.3 is so new and there are not many extensions for it yet, Forum Promotion wants to be the leader in 3.1 extension development. Therefore, we are introducing the Forum Promotion Official Extensions later on this month. These are extensions, such as our virtual cash extension, Caramel, that work with phpbb 3.1 and either replace an old modification or do a completely new task.
Another custom extension in development, Strawberry Milkshake, will allow the community of Forum Promotion to effectively organize, share, and receive feedback on resources such as graphics, themes, and user-made extensions. Both of these new extensions are aimed to launch around Phase 3 (see below).
While we begin to encourage more webmaster discussion and community, we have taken into account the responses of many of you from the recent community survey. Since then, we have re-evaluated our current official services and are planning to make some changes. Many of our services are unused by a majority of the active member-base. We have decided to remove the Signature Advertisement service, as well as the Social Advertisement service. To replace these unused services, we are actively brainstorming and developing new ideas to help your site receive the promotion and exposure you desire!
While it would be ideal to snap our fingers and have all the updates complete, it's just not viable at this time. We have four phases planned out over the next few months where we'll be teasing and introducing new features until we complete our full update to 3.1.3. Here is what we are planning!
- Phase 1: Index reordering, service changes, podcast introduction, and revised guidelines.
- Phase 2: Release of new advertising services
- Phase 3: Update to phpbb 3.1.3, new theme, Strawberry Milkshake: Resource Manager, Official Extension releases.
- Phase 4: Bugfixes, minor behind-the-scenes improvements, other changes
Suggestions and feedback are greatly appreciated, and may be discussed below. A full list of changes being implemented in Phase One (3.1.1) can be found in the next post. We would love to hear your thoughts on what we have planned coming as soon as April 3rd. Let us know what you think!
