Do you request them? How much have they helped your site?

What are your overall views on forum reviews? 🙂

As a webmaster/administrator I only requested for them once. I found it rather different with the way I wish to lead my website to, although third opinion could indeed be a good idea.

That's actually what reviews are for, to provide different point of views. 😉

I like to get them after large changes. Usually I'll just ask a friend for their opinion if it's something small. But I feel like it's a very nice service to help you on your way.

They seem like a big waste of FP cash to me, I'd rather spend it on a posting package. 😛

I think reviews can be really useful since they are an external set of eyes that might see things you don't because you're so close to your site and so familiar with it that everything is just second nature. That stated though, not every review or reviewer will always be helpful. So sometimes you might need to request a few reviews before you find someone who you can trust to give an honest and helpful answer.

I've requested one from here and to be honest it didn't really help me that much. (The only thing they really helped me with was the new reply icons were clipped wrong. So I redid those. ) Though this was before they revamped the review system here so things may have changed since I had a review done here.

I've requested one from a prominent site catering to my site's genre and they were much more helpful. They took time to explain what they thought needed work and why (the why was a huge aspect that makes a world of difference and was something that wasn't really explained on FP) plus how they thought things could be improved.

The difference between the reviews though is that here, my review was completed within a week of when I requested it. On the other site it took several weeks before someone took time to review my site. (Though on this site all reviews are done for free and by other users. So there are no paid review staff.)

I have only requested one, the reviewer only gave me one suggestion that I was already working on 🙂

That's what I like to hear. 😉

Usually, they are quite helpful and I like requesting them. However, sometimes they are just bad and overall unhelpful 🙁

I usually wait for my forum to build up before requesting them but I do indeed think they help. 🙂

I think they are vital...just like newspaper writers and book authors have editors read over their work, you too need someone external to read over and critique your work. The ;problem is, most people don't like taking negative and constructive comments..but sometimes that's what you need. If your site is pretty poor is a few areas, take it on board and help make it even better 🙂.

They are quite helpful for me at the start to see where my forum is and what I need to improve on or what I could add to improve the overall site.

I think they could be quite useful if you could have a review done in private to see what you could improve on before the site is public, not sure if that has been done before?

I used to manage the Review Team here on FP, and I know they helped a lot of people. We got a lot of good feedback, and I saw a lot of forums change for the better as a result. I think it's always good to have someone unfamiliar with the forum take a look, since you want guests' first impression to be the best.

I have never requested one! I will however request one when my new site is up....

The best "reviews" come from within. Every community should have a feedback forum for members to leave their comments, suggestions & opinions. I think the members are the ones who matter most when it comes to critiquing a forum, not someone from the outside who's glanced at your forum for a few seconds.
