Do you have a shop on your forum for members to browse through?

Do you think having a shop with little cosmetic gifts, upgraded memberships, and username change options improves user activity or no?

I don't have one on my forum. I wouldn't mind having one along with forum currency. I feel it would help promote more activity if people could work for something while posting.

Indeed I do, just most people not aware of it or not interested 😛

We had a shop when we were using Vbulletin and our members were totally confused on how to use it because they're older and not very tech savvy. I was going to create a video on how to use it for them, but wow, that would have been so much work. It's just easier to either not give them those options, offer it as a premium, or just give it to them if they beg hard enough.

Not at the moment, as it's just starting and it's more of a community than a "store". The goal is to actually sell my marketing services, which are pretty expensive (compared to premium accounts), but, in time, if members would like me to create a course or something, I can consider it. Selling it through the forums would be pretty easy anwyays.

I don't currently have a forum shop. I've thought about maybe integrating one to my forum eventually though, I have some ideas on what I'd offer. (One might involve actual points used to get a gift card for a platform of their choice since it's a video game based forum... But that might have to wait until I get paid next...)

Depends on how the cash / shop add-on is being used.

For example, on here you can use your FP cash for useful things (like requesting posting packages).

XenForo add-on creators make use of the shop feature to sell their products and to keep track of each members licenses to use those products (which is also useful).

However on general discussion forums I find them to be pointless and annoying. Especially when 90% of your notifications are the add-on telling you that you earned $2 Forum Cash for making a post or logging in (one of the first things I do when joining these forums is turn off all the notifications related to the forum cash add-on). On these forums the admins will lock up basic/standard features (like adding an avatar, signature, changing your username, etc) and force you to use your forum cash to unlock those features. Making people work for things they can do automatically (and for free) everywhere else is more of a hindrance than a help in my opinion.

I started to make one but then wondered if it was too much.

Maybe once the forum gets more activity.

I think they're only useful on webmaster / service forums like FP. Posting packages, advertising, reviews, etc. are something people would want to benefit their community, so staying active and posting is a way to unlock those benefits.

On any other type of forum, like gaming, general discussion, coding, etc. I don't really see a use for them

I do not have a forum shop, and I don't even have forum currency, however, for some time I am toying with this idea about having forum currency and having a shop for buying forum cosmetics but for buying digital products, arts, graphics ebooks, etc.

I don't have a shop on my forum at the moment but I would love to bring one in myself when I am able to. I think it is great that you can give members and option to be able to purchase more incentives on the forum using the forum currency that they earn for being active on the forum.
