Forum software needed...

I need a forum software that is very basic and I mean VERY BASIC.
It needs a basic theme system (like just a style.css, head.php, and footer.php)
Shows if topic is read or not.

Does anyone know of any like this?
I would make my own but I don't know how to do the topic read or not

I would suggest Vanilla, it's very lightweight, looks good and is not bad for a low powered forum.

Personally, I would use phpBB and strip it down myself, meaning making it very lightweight, removing all of the unneeded features.

Vanilla would be perfect for what you are looking for. I think bbpress is also minimal.

That's the one I'm currently using.
I want it about that simple but with register, login, topic read-unread, and basic theme creation

No problem.

The forum you linked (battlefieldmax) is similar to what I suggested by using phpBB and stripping it down (I guess I only suggested this because phpBB is my specialty) but anyway that battlefieldmax forum is just a SMF forum integrated into a Wordpress page. Just proves how simple it is to strip down a current open source forum software and make it still look decent.

Ya basically it is stripped down version of SMF.
maybe when/if I get time I can strip down PHPBB.

Me and a mate ate working on a new forum software, it's going to be easy to edit styles, easy to add mods, easy to install styles, and it will be user friendly. We will also have alot of new secrets which I cam really tell to the public.

MyBB is very simply to edit through the theme maker. If you only want to edit colours and images you don't even have to touch the templates.

To be honest the one you posted looks like the simplest forum software possible.
